Baby's head is lower than cervix?

At my last appointment, the baby's head was very very low and the doctor actually had to go around his head (very uncomfortable!) to check my cervix, which was long and closed.  Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm just wondering what happens when I actually go into labor - does the baby move back up if he has to go through my cervix?

  • Does not make sense to me...maybe I'm missing something...?

  • It probably means that your cervix is still posterior- it moves position. Your cervix isnt poitning straight down but it pointed more towards your back.

  • My doctor told me this too at my last appt (38 weeks). I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated.  Baby still isn't here though so I don't know what that will mean for labor...

  • I had this too when I got checked at about 35 weeks, my mw said the baby was very low and my cervix was still posterior and closed.  Consequently, the internal hurt pretty badly.  I had another one at 38 weeks and my cervix was much more anterior plus 2 cm and 90% effaced, that exam was not nearly as uncomfortable.

Yep.  Your cervix will move forward and open around the baby's head.
