Anyone feel the need to double check gender??

Re: Anyone feel the need to double check gender??

  • Store bought test?  Like Intelligender?

There's nothing in your urine that indicates boy/girl.  I can understand getting an early peek at the angle of the dangle and not being convinced, but I'd follow that up with another u/s.

And, the last pregnancy I had a 17 week u/s and there was NO MISTAKING the penis and scrotum.  So, no, I didn't feel compelled to double check.

If they tell me girl this time, I'll probably feel compelled to check at every appt. because DH's side of the family, "just doesn't make girls!" ;)

  • Um those expensive ones you can buy at walgreens? lol...I guess if you want. I wouldn't waste my money on those though.I would go get an elective ultrasound or something. :)

  • I'm pretty sure the store bought pee tests are WAY less accurate than an ultrasound. You could go have another elective u/s if you really want to confirm.

  • I am not going to double check because he made it quite obvious at both of our ultrasounds that he's a boy! Haha. But I wouldn't trust an "at home test." My OB told me never to trust those for gender. Plus, I did a couple of those before we found out and every single one told me girl... We're 110% having a boy.
  • yeah i was referring to the intelligender type test. I figured they were pretty inaccurate...i just have moments of panic that it will turn out to be a boy and we'll have to buy some new stuff. We'll see...maybe we'll decide to do an ellective ultrasound. I"m almost hoping they need a reason to do one more ultrasound at some point and then i can double check, hehe!

Did you really just say you want a reason to have a U/S done, really. You want to possibly have your baby have complications for a U/S. Go  get an elective if you want to double check.

  • I wouldn't waste your money on one of those tests...they're about 50% accurate. :)

I was the same way when we were told girl with DD. At my growth u/s around 36 weeks I asked the tech to double check. She said not to worry- they only tell the sex if they're POSITIVE they know what it is.

Now, of course there are going to be situations where they're wrong...but I think this day in age it's extremely rare.

"pretty inaccurate" is not the word for it. They have NO accuracy because there is NOTHING (nada, zip, zero, zilch) in your urine that has anything in it that can tell the gender.

The tests were a clever way to have someone waste their money. It's the same as using a magic 8 ball to find the gender....or flipping a coin (which is free....except for the coin)

  • well did you see a penis?????

I would go by a Techs opinion rather than a $30 test....

  • I will be double checking with an elective 3D/4D ultrasound this week, because baby has been hiding since they guessed girl at my 16 week u/s. However, it wasn't the best shot. And we would like to be a little more certain, our son won't come home to a girly room. :-)

But there is no store bought test that can tell you.

Have you asked about your U/S schedule? I get one at 36 weeks to check to see if the baby is breach, etc.

And sometimes your doctor will do them for a small fee, like $60-100.

  • I'm gonna talk to my doctor about it at my appointment this week!

  • I'll be rechecking at a 3D place a few weeks after my anatomy scan. They told us girl at my previous anatomy scan and we found out three days before Ds was born that he was a boy. I don't want to repeat that roller coaster ride!

  • I absolutely HAD to!  I didn't trust the sono technician when she told us. She said it's a boy and turned the monitor off right away.  i didn't get to see anything.  Luckily, my best friend is going to school to be a sono technician, so she rescanned me.  It was correct, but I couldn't stop thinking she was wrong!

  • You honestly think an at home test can tell you the sex of your baby?? You serious???

  • Good Lord. What has happened to the bump?

The intelligender tests are just a fun gimmick. They are not "innacurate" so much as they are just a bunch of false advertising. There is absolutely, 100 percent nothing in your urine that can tell you the sex of the baby. The only thing your urine can tell you is whether or not human growth hormone is present which simply means you HAVE a baby inside of you.

Aside from that, if they told you girl and your worried they missed a penis, I can understand, although it's highly unlikely that the tech was wrong. But it HAS been known to happen on occasion.

However, if you saw a penis, I wouldn't worry too much about getting a second opinion. There is no mistaking a penis between the legs. :)
