vitamin question

I've hear that you should start taking vitamins before TTC, is it necessary to take a PNV or would a complete vitamin work the same.  I'm not really sure what the difference between them are.

TIA

Re: vitamin question

  • To be honest, I am not sure what the difference is. I started taking a PNV once I stopped taking the pill. I just replaced my normal daily vitamin with it.  I think a complete vitamin would work the same, just once you do get pregnant you should switch to a PN one.

  • the biggest difference is a prenatal has extra folic acid, which helps prevent certain birth defects.  If you want to continue with your normal vitamin, just add in an extra folic acid pill, otherwise I'd switch to a prenatal.

Thats what i was going to say.  Meijer has free Prenatals with prescription, it doesn't have DHA but you don't need that until pregnant

This.  Folic acid is the important ingredient.

  • My OB both pregnancies wanted me to go on a PNV before starting TTC.  I'm on the free generic one (with prescription) from Meijer and have no side effects/issues with it.  Ask your OB what they'd prefer, and see if your preferred pharmacy offers free PNV.
