1st Trimester

Anyone else reverted to 5 yr old self? (food related)

Before I was pregnant, I was a fairly healthy eater and loved to cook. For dinners we would eat lots of veggies, whole grains, fish etc.

Now I have completely gone off all those foods and have only wanted things I haven't eaten since I was a little kid! Mac & cheese, poptarts, fries, fried chicken, jello, ice cream....and pretty much anything else that is full of fat and sugar and has no nutritional value.

I feel like such a failure! Is anyone else experiencing this? Make me feel better!

  • I am so with you not pregnant we eat really well pregnant I'm horrible about eating good stuff. I try not to beat myself up about it though, it will get better in the 2nd trimester.

  • So far this pregnancy I really have not had much of an appetite. But I've been sick (not m/s) too. With DS, though, yes. I wanted a pb&j with chocolate milk almost everyday. I also left for work at like 5 in the morning most days so I had a bad habit of grabbing donuts. I will be trying a lot harder to eat better with this one.

  • there were a couple weeks durring the 1st tri of my 1st pregnancy where all i wanted was fruity pebbles. prior to that i had had fruity pebbles maybe 3 times in my life...all before the age of 10 and i havent had them since.
  • Oh yes! I used to love to cook. Now I can't stand the idea of it. So unless my wonderful hubby decides to cook we've been eating out. My cravings also leave me wanting the worst food ever. I don't think I've eaten anything healthy this whole weekend. Wait! I had a salad last night with dinner, but I couldn't finish it all. I'm just hoping that once I get past this feeling nauseated most of the time that I can eat healthy things again. And enjoy cooking again.

  • I've reverted to a 5 yo in the sense that I'm only hungry for certain things NOW and I get all huffy and irritated if I can't have it. Like last night I wasn't hungry for ANYTHING but I was starving. Then finally it hit me that I wanted a baked potato, but didn't want to wait for one......... so luckily DH went to Wendy's and got one for me.  I was on the verge of a major 5 year old fit!!

  • I'm the same way!  It's been awful.  Thank goodness for prenatal vitamins.  I have nausea from dinner time on, so I tend to not eat much in the evening.  I try to make-up for it at breakfast and eat well.  I  can't handle veggies right now - they taste awful to me.  I've been drinking alot of juice and trying to eat more fruit.  High calorie, I know, but at least it has nutritional value.

It's been sort of depressing for me, because cooking is one of my hobbies, and nothing sounds appealing to me these days.  Looking forward to getting past the 1st trimester and back to eating!

  • Yep!  Today I had a PB&J sandwich and a chocolate pudding.  It's very hard for me to choke anything down, but my main staples these days are mac and cheese and chef boyardee ravioli.  I can't wait until this phase passes.

  • I am with you!  I always ate very healthy before pg, now the thought of a vegetable makes me want to gag!  I just tried to eat veggie pizza, thinking I could get some vegetables in that way, and I wanted to spit it out as soon as I took a bite.  Just hoping this phase passes soon and I go back to my salads!

  • Definitely! I used to eat salads and chicken or fish almost every night. Now all I want is typical junk food, or like you said, foods "full of fat and sugar w/ no nutritional value"- ramen noodles, pizza rolls, PB &J, cereal, chicken nuggets... Although I do still have the desire to eat fresh fruits- a lot of pineapple, tangerines, strawberries, grapes, plums, etc. which I'll often eat as a snack between meals. This is the only thing that makes me feel better about the rest of my eating habits!
  • I am right there with you.  PB&J sandwhich with cheese doodles are one of my favorite meals now.  I also love french fries.  Before I got pregnant I probably hadn't had french fries in a year or so.  I also crave salad so I hope that it kind of balances it out.
