Second Tri and Low Energy

I'm 16 weeks and still feel kind of low on energy... I'm better compared to my first tri but still am not where I'd like to be. I know this was mentioned before, and someone suggested taking extra vitamins along with their prenatals. For some reason I was thinking it was you @Sisimama10?? I feel bad because I've been wanting to start walking, and I know if I don't start now, I probably will have 0 motivation when the third tri rolls around. I know "they" say if you work out, you sleep better and feel more energetic. I don't know if this is true during pregnancy if your body isn't already used to the exercise.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice on what's worked for you, I would really appreciate it if you'd share! :)

I have zero advice. But have the same issue. I have such a hard time going to sleep at night. Like I don't get tired even if I was on campus walking all day. But then I have a hard time gettin up in the morning. :( and when I don't actually have anything to do that day, I lay on the couch unless DD wants something. Oh and I'm 19w. Blah!

  • I had the same issue with DD and now with this pregnancy! I never really found anything that helped, unfortunately! I just took naps when possible and went to bed early! :(

  • I'm also completely exhausted each day. Better than in first tri but still so tired. I mentioned it to my dr this week and she said that if I still feel so low energy at 20 weeks she will test my iron levels for anemia and my thyroid levels. She said it could be normal pregnancy fatigue but that usually people are over it in 2 tri and since I never felt that way in my other pregnancies she wants to check it out.

  • I'm 16 weeks and exhausted, too. I feel like it's a different kind of fatigue than 1st tri, but still making it impossible to motivate for exercise. I'm right there with you, lady.
  • I have the same issue. I sleep 12 hours at night and then another 2 mid day. I'm absolutely exhausted. I felt good energy wise the first trimester (I was just vomiting all day so I couldn't do anything), but now I can't do anything because I'm too exhausted!

    Let's hope it gets better!
  • Dang... Sorry to hear we're all experiencing the same problem! But it's good to know it's not uncommon. Hopefully someone will come along and offer some helpful tips! :D

Yes it was me! I don't get the notifications bc I'm on mobile. I just randomly opened this thread and saw my name. I was like ohhh shit until I saw it was about vitamins. ;) In addition to my prenatals I am also taking an iron supplement and a vitamin D supplement. I can notice the difference for sure if I don't take them. I am also anemic even not pregnant, so the iron supplement is crucial for me.
  • I also feel the same. My doctor checks my iron every appointment, and it's within normal range. So she checked my thyroid levels (?) this last appointment. I should hear the results sometime this week. Hoping all of us get some relief soon for our lack of energy!!!!!

I had my thyroid levels checked and everything was normal. I think the whole growing another person inside of you just sucks the life out of you!!
  • I just turned 16 weeks and have been so tired this week. Yesterday was probably the most exhausted I've been all pregnancy!

I have been forcing myself to get exercise though, and do agree it helps. I've been doing it more in the morning, when I'm not as tired, which helps start my day off and makes me feel awake for about an hour :). I've just too wiped after work to do anything. I would definitely recommend even just going on a little walk in the mornings - it does make you feel good, and that the exhaustion isn't "winning."

Hopefully that extra energy will kick in soon!

  • Me too! No second trimester honeymoon this time around...I often sit and wonder how I will make it another 20 weeks:( I'm getting my iron levels checked on Mon...I also hear my heart beating in my ears which drives me nuts...although that could be due to anemia or the increased blood volume...not fun!
  • Thanks @Ooopsbaby14 and @CalinAZ for suggesting the exercise! I figured it'd probably be something I'd just have to make myself do. I go to work at 7:15, and I'm definitely not a morning person. lol I'll just have to force myself to do it after work.

@Flm0819 I've been hearing my heartbeat in my ears too! Super annoying. It's only when I'm getting up and down a lot though. I'll be sure to mention all of this at my appointment next Friday.

@Sisimama10 Haha no, you're not in trouble or anything! ;) Thanks for the reminder. I'll ask my NP about it at my appointment.
