TTC After a Loss

how long did it take you to start to TTCAL?

i know that doctors give all sorts of restrictions on when you can start.  I saw the doctor and he told me that i can start as soon as i had my first period. Well I had my period and am going to ovulate very soon.

So the question is how long until you were mentally ready to start TTCAL?

Re: how long did it take you to start to TTCAL?

  • Drs told me to wait at least one cycle. Mentally, DH and I were both ready pretty much around that time.

  • When I lost my twins and had my D&C, it took me 8 weeks to get my first AF.  Originally the Dr wanted me to wait for 2 cycles, but because it took so long for my first one to happen, she gave us the go ahead at that point.  For me, I wanted to start as soon as we were allowed because I needed to focus on something hopeful instead of focusing on my sadness.

Everyone is different though.  You have to trust your gut and your heart.  GL with whatever you decide to do.

  • About one cycle.. though we're still nervous.
  • For my first loss we were told to wait 2 cycles, we waited 4. My head was in a bad place to even think about getting pregnant. This time I was ready in the 2 cycles we were told to wait but then had to wait an extra cycle for testing. I'm regretting waiting the extra even though it was doc's orders, everything turned out to be fine and we basically wasted an extra month.

  • We were told we could try as soon as we were ready. No need to wait one cycle. Started ttc right away. I was traveling right when I O'ed so it didn't happen. I am so happy that it didn't. There was no way I was mentally ready last month with the m/c so fresh. Give yourself the time that you need.

  • I guess I'm in the minority. I was nowhere near ready to ttc again for quite a while. The doc told me 2-3 cycles, but I waited about 6 months. My head just wasn't in the right place. I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress, and had terrible nightmares for months on end. It was horrible. When January rolled around I just felt something was different, or that something in me changed so that i could allow myself to even think of ttc again. That's when we started to try.

  • We were told to wait 3 cycles both times. We waited only 2 cycles the first time and got pregnant our 3rd month of trying. But the second loss was completely different and we honestly weren't ready until now...5 months later.

  • After we lost my daughter, it was seven months before I was ready.  And even then, I had so much anxiety when we started trying.  After our second loss, we decided to start trying again as soon as we were cleared- one cycle.  I am just so ready to have a family on earth that I can't wait any longer.
