It really is the only one that he uses perfectly. Oh, and "hello" when he puts a phone, remote, or whatever up to his ear. But he started that within the past month. Before then, he'll say mama and dada but I don't think if he still fully knows the difference between us. He won't really say bye-bye, but he was also waving on command by then.

at 12 months he had ma ma, da da - and mama was pretty hit or mis. he started really increasing his words around 15 months - now it seems he learns a few new words every day
Wow. DD is so behind. She only says mama and even that's hit or miss. I've been trying to sign w/ her since about 5-6 months and she's just now catching on to more and milk! :-/ She's also not walking yet. She'll be 13 months this week.

No. She's not behind.
E's not walking yet. And words are muddled. I know what they are because I hear her say them all of the time.
It's all good.

Hera can say: Dada, Mum-mum (or mem-mem), cheese, juice (sounds more like Jews... heh heh), da (which is her little Russian way of saying yes... and we're French & English), dath (which is bath), baba, hi, na-na (food), na (nap). She's recently started saying "Hi Dada". It's all about dada!
So, she can say quite a bit, but most of it is only translatable by mama or dada.
ETA: and she does baby sign language for "all done"

He just turned 12 mos. last week. He says Dada, Mama, and "ba" for ball. He does sign all done, more, and please. But thats only on demand. He understands lots more though and will point to several animals, all the sesame street characters (he has lots of elmo books) and knows the different colored balls i.e. get the red ball, get the blue ball, etc...
mama, dada, truck, ball, tractor, yes, ki ki (kitty), dog, woof, papaw, nana, drink (dink), good (goo), more (mo), bottle (baba), blankie (banky), bye bye, hello, hi, big
He is starting to mimic us and will say something we say but I don't count those words because he will only say it once when we say it like... tree... he may mimic us but won't say it again.
As in, my kid babbles up a storm but not a single thing he says has meaning. At his 12 month appointment his pedi said to just make sure to keep talking to him all the time and to "narrate his life", which we've been doing since day one. Sigh.
My LO is almost 14 months and he babbles all the time but only really says "dada" "mama" "uh-oh" and "dog". He definently understands words that he doesn't say...like if I say "baba" he comes running and expects a bottle. He won't say "bye-bye" but if we say it he'll wave when we say it. And he recognizes his name.
Once he started walking (9 months) he became super un-interested in talking. Hopefully this reverses soon... we try to talk to him all the time.
At 14 months, DS's only recognizable words are mama, dada and nana (banana). He's a crazy babbler though and is going through all of the consonants, so I figure it'll start soon.
My theory to make myself feel better is, he was a super early walker, so he'll be a little bit later on the talking.

definitely not behind. The average 12 month old has something like 0-5 words...so she's good! I understand DS the most, but DH understands a lot of what he says. most of the rest is unrecognizable to other people who don't hear it every day.
Zero words at almost 15 months. He babbles constantly and I talk to him all day long (and read dozens of books), so I'm hoping that it comes soon. He has always been way ahead in his motor skills, so I figure he's just taking his time with verbal.

At 12 mo DS said uh oh, pretty, and quack quack, but not consistantly.
Now, at 14 mo, he says Mommy, daddy, doggie, puppy, more, me, duck, quack, baa. moo, meow, eieio, vrroooom (car), and buzzzz (helicopter), where's it, and is starting to copy a lot of words we say to him. You'll be surprised how quickly an explosion can occur, most of this has been in the last 2 weeks!
Does your LO use a paci? Mine does, and I started taking it away more and more during the day unless he's tired or sad, and since I've noticed him talking way more than he had been. I think it was holding him back!
He has about 10 -12 words. I asked my pedi how many he should and she says they look for 2-3 @ 12 months so I think your LO is fine.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
mama, dada, ooohh ooohh (while pointing at what he wants). I was a little worried that he wasn't saying more but my ped said wait until around 15 months or so and he'll really start expanding his vocab:)

I'm going to say he only has one: "ish", for his fish. And that's probably stretching it. He'll point to his fish and say "ish". He also says mama and dada, but he doesn't associate those words with us.
Re: How many words does your 12mo have, if any?
um... right now, he says
kitty
apple
mama
daddy
applesauce
delicious
bye bye
ni-night

Tell your kid to stop making mine look like a dummy. K thanx.
Zero.
She says some "words" but they are rarely in the appropriate context: hi, bye bye, daddy, mama, night night, that

At 12 months, DS said maybe 5 words. Now he can say 60+ including two word phrases and every day he's adding more. I wouldn't worry about it!

But this is all now at 13 + months. She didn't have all of those words at 12 months... I just can't remember which ones she said.
