Any type of remedy for a baby cough?

My baby has a cough.  I know that you don't give babies OTC cough syrup.  But is there anything I can do for her to help her cough?  SHe's had this cough for about 1/2 a week and it's gotten progressively worse.  No fever, but lots of mucus/phlegm.

  • DS has the same cough. It sounds so bad but his nose is running like a faucet and he's teething so I can just imagine all the mucus is settling in his chest. We've been running a cool mist humidifier in his room and using baby vapo rub. I think I'll switch to a vapo plug tonight and see if that helps at all.

  • Honey or warm apple juice.  According to our doctor warm apple juice actually works better than an over the counter cough syrup anyways.  DD just went through two weeks of a terrible cough.  Use a vaporizer.  THe other thing is this, if the cough is dry Vicks Vapo Rub or anything Menthalated (sp?)  will make your baby feel better but make the cough worse in the long run.

  • Well it looks like I'll be running to the store for some apple juice.
  • Our doctor recommended a spoonful of honey when DD was that age.  GL!

  • I've heard honey also works better than OTC cough medicine. Definitely run the humidifier.
