Cloth Diapering

Ecover: how/when do you use it?

I've heard people talking about using ecover on their diapers to keep them soft, and I'd like to try it. But I see both fabric softener and detergent available, and I'm confused--do I use the softener? How often? At what point in the wash cycle? Or do people who use ecover use it for detergent?

I'm currently using RnG. Rinse cold. Hot wash with RnG. Two rinses cold.

Re: Ecover: how/when do you use it?

  • i wash as normal, then take out anything with PUL and run a rinse cycle with a capful of the ecover fabric softener with the non-PUL stuff

  • Do you do this with every wash?

Is ecover softener OK on hemp and bamboo, too?

  • you can, but i don't and yes it's great for natural fibers

  • OK, so, let's say I pulled out all of the things with PUL during the ecover rinse. Is it OK for me to then recombine PUL (no ecover rinse) and not-PUL (ecover rinse) in the dryer? I line dry pockets and covers, but I do put my AIOs in the dryer.

  • as far as i know it is, i line dry everything 95% of the time though.  the ecover helps make things not so crunchy when i line dry

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question, but: You soaked them in the ecover fabric softener? Or in the detergent?

I had these hemp inserts/doublers that I got off Diaper Swappers and they were SO crunchy. Like I was considering taking a loss and just tossing them. Really, really rough.

I soaked them in ecover and they are SO SOFT now!!! I'm so excited about the results. :)

Fabric softener. I soaked a bunch of my fitteds in it and they were ridiculously soft afterwards.
