follistim and IUI

Well, its official. Went to see a new RE yesterday which just so happened to be cycle day 3 and we are starting IUI this cycle! He put me on follisitm and ovidrel for the trigger. I start them tomorrow! I am so nervous and excited at the same time. Anyone have any advice? what to expect? how often do i go to the doc for ultrasound and bloodwork...

My first appt is monday.

First congrats! I was very excited for my first IUI as well.

Both of my IUIs were with Follistim/Ovidrel only. I don't really have any advice, but the injections are easy and pretty painless once you get past the first one.

As for ultrasounds/bw, I had to go every 4 days at first, and then as I started responding I had to go every other day until they told me to trigger with the Ovidrel.

The IUI itself is quick and painless very similar to a pap.

I'm starting my 3rd Follistim + trigger + IUI cycle tomorrow, so we'll be cycle buddies!

Follistim is super, super easy. Did they teach you how to use the pen? My DH does the shot because I'm a baby, but I swap out the needles and dial up the dosage for him.

I usually go in for monitoring every third day in the early days of stimming and every other day as I get closer to triggering. I was miserable on clomid and I don't see any side effects from Follistim other than bloating.

We did follistim and ovidrel for our last iui cycle. It's not so bad... I'm a super baby when it comes to needles but it was pretty easy and painless. First time I took Ovidrel it made me super sick feeling and nauseous so take it easy just try to lay down and relax. no other s/e of follistim that I can remember... clomid had more s/e for me. Second... what dosage of follistim did you use? and what days? we are starting on day 5. 75 units. my appt is monday to check everything. then we go from there. How long after injections do you normally have mature follicles to trigger? is it possible to ovulate without the trigger? or is that rare?

It varries from patient to patient and from cycle to cycle. I've started on day 3 my other cycles, but this cycle I'm starting on day 5. From what I read on here, 75iu is a common starting point. I usually start at 150iu and the RE adjusts it up or down depending on how quickly or slowing things are coming along.

My first injectables cycle I stimmed 8 days and my second I stimmed 11. Because you're going through all the expense and time of injectables, I would think the trigger is very important.

My last IUI cycle I did Follistim (150iu) every other day. My husband gave me the injections in the evening. I'm the biggest wimp when it comes to needles, but this one didn't hurt at all. No side effects at all. Best of Luck this cycle.

Hi Ladies!

My Husband and I have been TTC for a while now and we started this cycle with clomid that did not work for me...so my RE put me on Follistim which I have been taking for 10days now...it looks like I have 2follie @16, 1 @ 14, 2 @13.5. I started with 75iu and then up'd it to 100iu and now we are back down to 75iu. We will be doing our first IUI this time and I am hopeful that it will work for us. Although I know people say it usually doesn't work the first time. I am trying to stay positive!!

Did anyone get pregnant with their first IUI?
