Tell me about this stomach bug going around

How does it start? Does it start with a fever?  Does the puking come first, or diarrhea?

We're still dealing with some illness in Tyler although he is being treated with antibiotics for a sinus infection.  He has very gross, very loose, stinky poos, but I think it's more a result of the antibiotics than diarrhea.  He has been running an off and on fever since yesterday afternoon.  It was a little over 101 yesterday, he slept well last night, and his temp was normal this morning.  However by 1:00 today it was back to 101.

I took him to the pedi at 4:30, and of course the fever was gone.  Lungs good, throat OK, nothing seemed overly awry and the doctor said it's likely viral.  By dinnertime, his temp was 102.4.

Does this sound like the stomach bug or something else?  I am just wondering what we are in for here.

  • For Sam it was vomiting at 4pm and continued every 45 min to an hour. His highest temp was 100.5. We went to the ER at 10 because nothing was staying down! A sip of pedialyte would come back up. By the time we got to Children's it was the green stomach bile (sorry if tmi). He got zofran at the hospital and no more vomiting after that. The next morning he doing a little better but no appetite! Then after his nap the diarrhea started. That just ended yesterday, 6 days later:-(. Ryan was a little different. Her vomiting started 2 days after Sam started and was a couple hours apart. After the 4th time, we gave her some of the zofran that they sent us home with from Sam (er dr said it would be ok since they pretty much weigh the same and she knew Ryan would get it soon). No more vomiting after that but she had major stomach cramps and her highest temp was 101. Her diarrhea started the next day and we are still waiting for it to go away:-( Somehow DH and I have avoided it so far! Sorry for the novel:-)

  • Cedric started diarrhea Sunday night right before bedtime.  Had diarrhea since then and started puking at lunchtime on Monday.  He only threw-up 2xs, lunchtime and another time shortly after the first.  He also started a fever at lunch time on Monday too.  Had a fever all that night.  Tuesday just diarrhea, puking and fever was no more.  We shall see what happens today.

The doctor just said to feed him the BRATTs diet.  Bananas, rice, apples (not juice), tea, and toast.

  • hmmm... well that doesn't sound like the virus, although he could just have a touch of it.

Jack's came out of nowhere. Woke up at 4:30 and said he "burped in his bed" ( he had never thrown up before) and threw up 3-4 times. Diarrhea for 7 days and no appetite for at least 5.

When Sawyer had it, he only had stnky nasty diarrhea for 2-3 days and no appetite. I nursed him like crazy to hope he wouldn't catch it.

Sawyer is on antibiotics right now too, and his poo smells soo bad, his pee is so potent too, it's strange. So Tyler's issues could definitely be from the antibiotics.

Either way, GOODNESS, enough sicknesse around here, ya think!?!?

  • Well that sounds absolutely horrid! Makes we want to stay in the next few weeks until it passes... I worry of course that DS will get it..but worried I will too.. Hope everyone feels better soon!
