Fitteds and prefolds users, a question.

I mainly use pockets, but have been wanting to try fitteds and/or prefolds and covers, so I bought some Econobums on their special to try out. The prefold just absorbed all her urine, but it didn't keep her dry. The wet cloth just sat next to her skin, and it was a heck of a lot damper than with our pocket diapers.

So, my question is, is that just how it is with fitteds and prefolds? Does your baby do alright with all the wetness against their skin like that? Is there no way to keep them feeling dry when using that kind of diapering?

Yes, the prefold is wetter than a pocket or diaper that has some kind of insert that wicks the moisture away. I changed dipes a lot more frequently when we first started CD'ing and I was exclusively using prefolds and Econobums. If I use them now, I add an insert and that helps keep her dry.

Most pockets have the microseude or fleece liner that makes them "stay dry." E doesn't mind the wet feeling so much. But you could always put a fleece liner in the PF or fitted if it bothers LO.

That is just how it is, it doesn't bother DS but I have heard it can help with potty training since they feel wet. At night, we put a fleece or flannel liner up against his skin so the dampness isn't against his skin, otherwise we just change him often enough.

I find that lo will let me know the second that she has wet a prefold. I love knowing that she isn't sitting in a dirty diaper. However when she is in a pocket she doesn't give me any clues to being wet so it may stay on her a little longer (I change every 2 hours regardless)
