Random cloth diapering question

I'm not planing on using cloth diapers so I don't know the answer to this...I was just thinking, what do you use for wipes? Actual diaper wipes like huggies, etc or wash clothes?  And do you hand wash the diapers? I know this is so random but it just popped into my head. LOL  I guess it's just curiosity.  I obviously know nothing about cloth diapering. Stick out tongue

Re: Random cloth diapering question

  • I'll be cloth diapering and I just plan to use chlorine-free  wipes.  Some folks prefer washable, reusable wipes, but that's not for me.  I'm using a diaper service, so I'll basically be paying someone else to haul off and wash my diapers for me, but lots of people do wash their diapers at home.

    Hope that helps!

  • hmmm that is a really interesting thought.  If you were CD because your kid had super sensitive skin the wipes might not effect it in the same way.  If you were doing it for enviornmental reasons then I would think that using all the wipes would be just as bad so you might just use a wet washcloth or wet clean diaper.  Then again they might be more biodegradable than diapers.

  • With a baby on a liquid diet, everything gets thrown in the washer, pre-rinsed, washed with an extra rinse (special CD detergent), and dried, preferably in the sun to pull the stains out.  We use cloth full-time.  It's easier to use wash cloths, as we just put everything in the laundry basket.  Otherwise, we would need to add an extra step to throw away a wipe.  We wet down wipes with a peri bottle before using them.

  • Thanks girls.  I know it's random but I was just curious mainly. Consider it my random pregnant thought for the day. Wink

  • We're cloth diapering and will wash the diapers ourselves. I'll be starting off using clorine-free wipes. The main reason I don't want to use cloth wipes is that it seems like it would be hard to get the poop off - with the diapers you can spray.

  • Hey LB :D

We are using cloth... and we use baby facecloths for wipes. There are some that have too much polyester to really pick up water, but in general are way more efficient than disposable wipes.

I am really liking the cloth already... although there is now almost always some stage of laundry on the go in our house!

    Hope you are doing well!!!

  • I bought a lot of old receiving blankets at thrift shops and cut them into wipes.  They're 7x7 squares zig zag stitched together to avoid unraveling.  Either way, they're cheap and will work pretty well.  If they get messed up, who cares?  They were, at most, 10 cents each and can be washed over and over again.

    That's a great idea!
