  • Given Name:  Rhianna Laura

Nickname:  My mom hated nicknames, so as a child everyone was made to call me Rhianna.  No one in school called me nicknames either.

Now:  Professionally I go by Rhianna.  Most people get it once I correct them on the pronunciation.

When my first niece was born (DH's family has a thing for nicknames), I became RhiRhi (Re-Re).  Now DH calls me that some as well as the rest of his family.

  • Given Name: Annelise

Nickname:  I adamantly refused, growing up, to be called Ann, Anne, or Anna--despite WAY too many people trying to shorten it.  My mom named us with the intent that none of us would have NNs, and it stuck.  That said, in HS I picked up the name Ava(AH-va, not AY-va...specific reason for the pronunciation) in Latin class(I'm a bit of a lifelong bird geek, so I went for meaning and having the same initial was a plus), and wound up using it in that class(teacher kept confusing me with another girl who had an unusual three-syllable name), online, and one or two friends used it, but that was it.  In college, I decided to check out the fencing club, and they asked if I went by anything shorter, since my name was "long and hard to remember."  Since I was still adamant about not being called a short version of my FN, I said I would also answer to Ava, and it stuck.  Most of my college-years friends wound up knowing me by the NN rather than my FN, since most who didn't have classes with me knew me through people who knew me through fencing, etc, and a lot of my friends still use the NN, though I still use the FN professionally.  I've even had one who jokingly left me a voicemail one day saying I should stop telling people I was FN, since "everyone" knew my "real name" was Ava.

  • Jessica Lynne

My dad has always called me Blondie. Mom & siblings called me Jess, Jessie, or derivations of Lynne - Lynnie Lou, Skinny Lynnie, etc... And friends mostly called me Jess. I don't think my husband has ever called me Jessica! It's always pet names, Jess, or Sheshie, which is how one of my nieces pronounced Jessie when she was a toddler. :)

Professionally, I introduce myself as Jessica but don't mind at all when people shorten it to Jess.

  • Given name is Sunny Rae LastName (yeah...), growing up they always called me by my first and middle name.  That finally dropped off in grade school.

Nicknames were Sun, Sunshine, Surp (initials were SRP), and Santina (Sonny=Santino, so my friend changed it to a more feminine spelling).

I hate my name for professional purposes and am planning on giving my kids a name that will work professionally and still have a cuter/shorter potential nickname to go by.

Nickname: Kel (mostly by my family and very close friends); also Tadden, Tad or Taddy - when I was little, I couldn't say "Kelly".  I pronounced it "Tadden".  Who knows why?  :)  My parents still call me Tad sometimes.

    Now:  Kelly or Kel

  • Given name: Andrea Bernadette

Nickname (was it an always thing or at what age did it evolve) - I have always been called Andi, sometimes my mom would throw in Pandi, Panda, or something similar which caught on with my friends who started calling me Andi Pandi. Yes, I am still using the same user name I have had since middle school. LOL.

Now - Everyone still calls me Andi. I feel weird when people call me Andrea because I associate that name with people who don't know me and are just reading my name off of a list.
