Impossible that I'm pregnant???

I'm freaking out a little... Yesterday, after taking four pregnancy tests all of which said I was pregnant, I called my OB/GYN's office to inform them and begin the steps.  I told the receptionist that I rec'd four pregnancy test, all positive and I'd like to schedule a visit.  I told her that the first day of my last period was Oct 2 and she immediately said 'it's impossible that you're receiving positive pregnancy tests'.

I was using ovulation tests and got a positive reading on Oct 14, so that's when we tried getting pregnant.  I'm taking a blood test tomorrow, but will have to wait until late Thursday afternoon to hear the results.  Ever since this lady said that it's impossible I'm having a very hard time sleeping and it's really all I keep thinking about.  I'm so excited to be pregnant, but now that excitement is overshadowed by fear.

Does anyone think it's possible/probable that I AM in fact pregnant??

Thanks!

Re: Impossible that I'm pregnant???

  • I definitely think you could be. I don't have any idea what she was talking about.

  • I've heard that pg test are hardly ever false positives. Just false negatives. What brand are you using? I know some brands are more sensitive than others.

Keep you chin up! Time will tell :) GL!

  • The receptionist is an idiot.

My LMP was August 4 and I got a positive on Aug 29- so almost exactly the same time apart as you.

  • They didn't even take my blood when I told them I was pregnant.  They trusted my HPT, and I AM pregnant.  I am shocked that she would say that it's impossible, as my doctor said positive is as good as positive.   We found out we were pregnant 2 weeks after I ovulated/conceived, so somethings off with what the nurse said.

Tomorrow is 2 weeks for you as well.

  • Not impossible at all.  What is possible, however, is that the receptionist is a dumbfuck who deserves a kick in the ute.

  • Actually, exactly the same time as you. 26 days between last period and positive test. ALL women ovulate at different days, have different LP lengths. Jeez, again, that receptionist is an idiot.

  • We started trying around Sept. 20 and my positive HPT was on October 8th. BPT came back positive on the 10th. Thats about the same amount of time as you. I think that nurse was just being difficult. I will think good thoughts for you.
  • It's possible.  That woman is a moron and should never say anything like that to a patient.

  • That receptionist is a douche.  It's not impossible at all.  Maybe a little early, but seriously, four tests...I'd say you're pregnant!

  • Ditto Richinlove: I was about exactly the same as you from LMP to BFP: I'd trust your HPT(s). Maybe receptionist needs to stick to making appointments and lay off w/the opinions about what's medically possible... =) ?

  • The receptionist is just that, a receptionist, she is not a doctor so I wouldn't worry too much about what she said.  My husband & I tried the first week of September, specifically the 4th & I got a positive on the 19th, the day I was supposed to start my period & I am definately pregnant, had my first ultrasound Friday!

  • That's why she's the RECEPTIONIST and not the DOCTOR.

Maybe she was looking at last week instead of this week? Maybe she's a twatwaffle? Who knows. You're pregnant. False positives almost NEVER occur. Congratulations!

  • It is almost unheard of to get a false positive!! You should honestly say something to the dr. because that was completely unprofessional and rude of her to say to you!

    Good luck!!! And congratulations!

  • She's a moron. That'd be a 27 day cycle with a 14 day LP. That's almost textbook for an "average" cycle.

I'd say after 4 tests congrats! You're pregnant!

    Now find a doctor who's receptionist isn't a moron :)

  • Some ladies have gotten a BFP 9 days past ovulation, so you can certainly be getting a BFP and can indeed be pregnant.
  • UGH. Some doctors offices are SO STUCK on the 28-day cycle thing! So annoying!

    ?

I'm positive you're pregnant. Tell the receptionist to STFU next time you talk to her. Seriously, though, if you go to that doctor, you should say something to the receptionist on your way out - "Turns out I really AM pregnant - miracles do happen, I guess!" and then flip your hair at her. Wink

  • I was 26 days too.  Period on 9/18, BFP on 10/14.  Shes an a$$hole!  Just be happy :) Congrats!
  • It's definitely possible..... I would make sure to tell your doc when you see him/her what the receptionist said to you and add that she might want to work on her people skills....WHAT A JACKASS!!!
  • It's definitely possible. She is a dumbshite. Furthermore, I would mention it to the Dr. when you go in. As the receptionist, she shouldn't be giving anything that could possibly be construed as medical advice or opinions.
  • I actually tested positive 24 days after my LMP, which is even less time than you.  I absolutely believe you are pregnant, there's no way around it.  False positives are like less than 1%.  That woman is a joke....

  • The receptionist should have asked what your normal cycle was, and if your period was late.  Technically you can test a couple of days before a missed period and receive a positive.  It depends --every woman is different when they ovulate.

  • If you have short cycles like I do (around 26 days) it is definitely possible.  If your last cycle started Oct. 2 & you found out yesterday, you are (by lmp) 3 weeks & 5 days pregnant.  Plus, 4 pregnancy tests aren't lying to you.  Congratulations!!

  • Not at all impossible. You are probably pregnant!

  • I had a BFP on 9DPO, on an IC none the less. My drs office (PCP) thought I was insane too but they changed their minds when they saw the pee test I took for them.

  • If you got 4 positive tests then you are absolutely pregnant. That nurse is an idiot. I would seriously question any advice she gives you for the remainder of this pregnancy.

  • Completely possible and very likely given your 4 tests!  Why do some receptionists feel the need to be so rude?  Don't even listen to her, it is just not worth the frustration.  Some offices just get so hung up on the idea of a 28 day cycle.  My primary doctor told me that there was no way for me to be pg since I flunked their urine test and then when I asked about the sensitivity of the test he told me that all tests are the exact same.  So not true...  Good luck!

  • She's an idiot. It all depends on when you ovulated. Based on your OPK+ dates, you probably ovulated between CD 11-13. That puts you at 14-16 DPO now at which you would be able to get a positive on an HPT.  Not common, but you can get a positive as early as 8-9 DPO.

Here is an HPT accuracy chart by DPO:

HPT Accuracy Results Percentages: (Based on a 25mIU sensitive test)
    10 dpo : 35%
    11 dpo : 51%
    12 dpo : 62%
    13 dpo : 68%
    14 dpo : 74%
    15 dpo : 80%
    16 dpo : 88%
    17 dpo : 92%

  • she's an idiot. you can get a positive about 10 dpo - and you may have O'd earlier than most, too.

  • um, i'd say if you got 4 positive pregnancy tests then there is a good chance you are pregnant.

  • It is absolutely possible that you are pregnant and if I were you, I would talk to my Dr. about how her receptionist is handling patients. Her comment caused undue stress for you and that is not what they are there for. The whole office should be a support system to you, not someone who makes you worry unnecessarily.
  • I got my last period Sept 2-5 and got my positive sept 28th.  Its definitely possible

  • If the tests were "wrong" because you took them too early, I'm pretty sure they'd show false negatives, not false positives.    For the HPT test to show a positive, it HAS to detect the HCG (or whatever it is) in the urine.    I've read that there's no way for HCG to be present in the urine unless you are 1) pregnant or 2) taking fertility drugs with HCG in it (not sure what those drugs are).

I'd say 4 positive tests is a pretty sure thing.   You'll know for sure on Thursday.    Congrats!

  • Absolutely not impossible and I think it's horrible that the receptionist would say that.  My last period began on 9/22 and I tested positive on 10/17 at 3 wk 4 days.  I took two tests and they both said positive, I also took a third test a week later just to confirm and it was positive.  I called the doc and I now have an appt next Thursday.  My friend also found out she was pregnant at 3 1/2 weeks and she is now 20 weeks.  Don't worry what the receptionist told you...just enjoy your pregnancy!!!
  • Ditto PPs. If that's the receptionist you have to deal with for the next 9+ months, I'd probably look for a new doctor.
  • i don't think it's impossible you're pregnant. if you took 4 tests and they all came up positive i think it's pretty much a sure thing. don't stress out too much though. i actually went in to the doctor's and they did a confirmation test of their own and that came up positive as well as a HPT. just don't let what that woman said bother you too much.
  • The first day of my last period was October 1 and I had my first positive test this past Saturday.  I called my OB and scheduled an appointment.  They said Congratulations!  It is TOTALLY possible/likely you are pregnant.

Some people are such bubble poppers!

    Best of luck to you!!!

  • Like everyone else said, she's an idiot. I got my LMP on the 6th of September and tested positive on the 30th of September. 10 days after ovulation.. If you took 4 pregnancy tests, I say you're pregnant. She's a moron.
  • Thank you all for your encouragement!!!  You all made me feel so much better and much less worried.  Also, some of you guys made me laugh my butt off!!  Thanks again!
  • Listen to all the other girls!

    CONGRATS! Stop worrying & celebrate.

  • Just chiming in to say I got my BFP at 26 days after LMP, too.  No questions from my doctors office when I called to schedule an appointment.
