Clogged duct ?

On Sunday I developed a clogged duct. I didn't think it was a huge deal, I have gotten them before and have been able to massage them away. This one was pretty stubborn though and didn't respond to hot compresses, massaging or frequent nursing. It got very painful and at the advice of my LC I slept with a heating pad on the area and had LO wake up every 2 hours to eat. It finally went away around 3 AM. However, I have noticed a very stark decrease in supply from both breasts over the last 2 days. Just wondering if this is something that can hurt supply? I would think since I was nursing so often I would have done the opposite. TIA!

Re: Clogged duct ?

  • Try laying down to feed your LO with your LO's chin pointed at the duct. I had a clogged duct at the 12 o'clock position of my right breast and that meant feeding him upside down (chin pointed at the duct). It is possible to do that if laying down.

  • I had seriously decreased supply when I had mastitis a month ago, once it was going away my supply came back. Maybe make sure you feed/pump on both sides until your supply comes back.
