Thoughts on piercing baby girl's ears.

Re: Thoughts on piercing baby girl's ears.

  • Pierced my daughters when she was 3 months old and loved it!  She looked so pretty and people knew that she was a girl.  Also, at 3 months they are too little to grab for their ears and pull on the earings.  By the time they learn to grab specific things, they are already used to having earings so they don't pull on them.  My daughter is 14 now and has never had a problem with the holes from when she was 3 months.

My sister waited until her girls were 7 or 8 years old and they were terrified to get them done.  I think it took the one until she was 10 because they'd go every year on her birthday and she'd freak out and leave.

It is truly a personal opinoin though.  You have to do what you are comfortable with.

We are having a BOY! Carter Oliver is expected to join us July 5, 2011. We love you already little guy! BabyFetus Ticker

Babies who have their ears pierced look tacky and low class to me.

I don't think there's anything WRONG with it (other than the hassle you're going to have to take on my making sure they stay clean/uninfected/etc), but, like cars on cinder blocks in the front yard, I would expect it in low class neighborhoods...not in higher class ones.

Now, I fully understand that in other countries, infant ear piercing is normal, and stuff that we do here can be considered "low class" to other countries. However, I am answering this question as from the perspective of someone living in America.

When she comes to me and asks to get it done (age 5+), then we'll go do it.

This is the exact image I have in my head when I think of people from Georgia.

    Go figure.

    LOL

I've never even heard a negative opinion about ear piercing until coming to The Bump. It's funny how things can blow up online but never cross your path in real life. For instance - The Knot made it sound like every wedding I went to was going to be Tiffany Blue and Chocolate Brown, and I would be a copy cat clone if I went that route.

I've never been to a Tiffany Blue & Chocolate Brown wedding.

I've never met a child named Addison, nor a little girl named Charlie

There are regional influences on everything, and there are internet influences.

This argument makes me giggle. I think the "class status" thing has got to be regional thing. Your blanket statement is offensive to easily 50% of women. It's too broad of a generalization.

That's like saying. "All blondes look like wh0res to me. Even the successful ones probably suck d!ck for advancement. That's just my opinion and you asked my opinion. Everyone has an opinion"

Piercing an infants ears just seems practical to me. I can clean and turn them daily. No matter how "responsible" you think your 6 year old is....they're 6!!! I'd rather just get it done and over with.

It's not like they'd  be wearing big dangly hoops with their names carved out. For petes sake they're tiny gold studs. If that's enough to make you judge an infant as "trashy" I can honestly say that living up to your standards is a bit extreme.

  • I wasnt allowed by her "father" to get B's ears pierced as an infant. She asked me all the time from as soon as she had words for them, she was talking in full sentences at 2. He still wouldnt let me. So as soon as he took off, which happened to be around her 4th birthday I took her. It was no big deal, she cried for a second, I gave her a lollipop & done. She fought me when it came to cleaning them though. She still very much loves her earrings.

If this baby is a girl, Ill be getting them done as soon as the 1st round of shots are done. 8ish weeks. Im not worried about infections or allergies because Im not stupid. I know to use an allergy safe metal & I know to clean them.

  • Until the Bump, I never knew how controversial this topic was so to each her own.  I had my ears pierced since I was 6 months old and was glad that my mom did it that early.

I plan to pierce my future little girl's ears when she's less than a year old.

all of this. my ears were also pierced when i was 6 months old, and DD's ears were pierced at 3 months. to each her own, it is not my place to tell someone else what to do with their child or judge them for their choices, unless of course it is something TRULY dangerous. ear piercing is not Wink

Touche. I should have chosen my words more carefully.

Oh, I do agree with you about GA....when I heard my company wanted to relocate me here, that's the image I had as well. Thankfully,. I was pleasantly surprised (but there are some areas that do match that description to a "T".

  • My dad took me to get mine done at age 7. I didn't ask. he just asked "Do you want to go get your ears pierced?" Of course!

I had my daughter's done after her 3 month immunizations (I think...she was 3 or 4 months old). The doctor said if i did it, that's when she recommended I wait until.
