IKEA Twin Beds

If you have one for LO does it fit a standard size twin mattress not purchased from IKEA? I noticed that their mattresses aren't standard size, a few cm different but since mattresses are kind of squishy I was hoping a real one would fit. Also, if anyone has this bed, did you need a boxspring? It looks like their mattresses are a lot thinner than the ones I've seen at mattress stores. The IKEA is 3.5 hours from me so I can't just go look at this bed. I'll have to order it online.

Thanks a bunch!!

Re: IKEA Twin Beds

  • We have an IKEA Malm double bed (not for DS, just as a guest bed). It does fit a standard full/double mattress that we did not buy from IKEA. And nope, this bed doesn't use a boxspring. In terms of mattresses, they have foam ones that are much thinner than other ones, but they also have regular coil mattresses that are probably about the same thickness as ones you'd see elsewhere.

Hope that helps! We were just there yesterday looking at beds/mattresses for DS, and are going to go with this bed: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50161825 and this mattress: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50139764 as his toddler/big boy bed, until we buy him real furniture.
