3rd Trimester

Tall mommas, come on in

I'm 5'10" and DH is 6'. I hear all the time about how big my baby could possibly be, but I'm wondering how LONG he might be. If you're a 2+ mom, how long was your first? My mom keeps saying that my brother and I barely fit into any of our newborn clothes because we were so long!

Re: Tall mommas, come on in

  • I am 5'10 and DH is 6'4 and DD was 22 in when she was born. She has been in the 99 percentile since birth for her height. lol. at her 15 mth apt she was 34.5 so no telling how tall she is now.

  • Oh and no newborn clothes here. She was born wearing 3 mths. she was 8.14.. I didn't even buy one piece of newborn clothing for this baby.

  • I'm 5'9" (my Mom is 6'3") but my husband is only 5'8", DD was 21 inches at birth and remains in the 90th percentile for her height. I'd definitely wait to wash the newborn clothes to see if he even fits in them.

  • She was 8.14 and 22.5 inches long. No newborn clothes for us!
  • I'm not particularly tall myself - pretty average I'd say (5'6") but my dad and my half brother are both tall (6'2" and 6"7" respectively), and my ex is about 6'1". DS#1 was 7lbs, 15oz and 21.5" long. He's currently around the 75th percentile for height, at 4.5 years old.

I definitely wonder how long this babe's gonna be because although the guys in my family are tall, my boyfriend is only about 5'9"-5'10" himself... pretty average... and I have no idea how tall his dad is but his mom isn't exactly huge or anything.

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.

FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
  • I'm 5'10" and DH is a smidge taller - kiddo was 8lb6oz and 20 inches at birth (although honestly I don't trust any length measurements because it's pretty impossible to get an accurate one!).  He still wore Carter's newborn for a few weeks (there's a lot of variation in brands).
  • I'm wondering about this too. I'm 5'9, DH is 6'4. My brother is 6'4, FIL is 6'5 and dh's brothers are both 6'4-6'5. Doc said LO has dropped, but I still cannot breath at all, and he comes all the way up to right under my boobs. So I feel like he is really long. He was 6.8 at 35 week u/s. I guess we'll see. I washed a lot of clothes that other have given me, or didn't have tags, so if they don't fit him, I'll just give them to someone else or keep for future kids.

  • I'm 5'9" and DH is 6'.  Our babies were both around 21 inches long and fit in NB clothes for a while.

ETA - my boys weighed 7 lb. 10 oz. and 8 lb. 11 oz.

  • I am 6' 2" and the father of my two children is about 5'9". My first was 9 lb and 22 in. My second was 9 lb 12 oz and 22.5 in. We used no newborn clothes or diapers.

This time:  DH is 6'3 so we shall see how big my third (and last!) is in about 5 or 6 weeks!

  • i'm 5'10" my DH is 6'2" and our kids were all 21.5 inches and right above or just below 9 lbs.  but they were also either right on due date or a week early.  so i wonder how big they could have been if they were all on due date, or later;)

  • I'm almost 5'10" and DH is about 6'2". DS was 8 lb and 21 inches long. This baby feels longer because she's kicking up in my ribs, feels like.

  • I'm 5'11 and DH is 6'. DS was 8lbs 6oz and 22.5in. He wore NB diapers for about 5 weeks, and was able to wear NB clothes for about a month.

I agree with ncbelle, that there's a lot of variation between brands. I found that Gerber brand was especially small, and I'm seeing the huge difference in multipacks of Carters onesies (some from the same pack are shorter and wider, while others are long and skinny)

  • I'm 5'8" and FI is 6'4", and DD was 19" and 8 lbs 14 ozs.  She could barely fit into nb clothing when she was born.  She's 3 1/2 now and has consistently measured off the charts for height and weight.

One thing to remember is that, regardless of how big/long LO is when he's born, he'll probably be in nb clothes for a very short amount of time.  I'd invest in more 3 mo clothes.

  • I'm 5'9 and DH is 6'5 and DD was 8 lbs even and 20 in. She grew to be in 100% for ht & wt and still is but thankful she was born at a normal size even at 1 week late! She only wore NB clothes for a couple weeks.

  • I'm 5'10+ but DH is shorter. DD was 20 inches at birrth and 22 at her 1 week appointment - who knows which was accurate. She is 90% for height and wore newborn clothes (just sleepers) for a month.
  • I'm 5'11 and my DH is 6'3 - I have a few hand-me-down newborn things from my SIL, but I haven't bothered buying any myself. My mum told me I was a very tall baby and apparently so was my DH. Plus I'll be using cloth diapers, which tend to be a bit bulkier than normal diapers - so most of the clothes I bought are 3 months +
