We are trying to decide between Elizabeth and Caroline for our little girl. What nn's do you think are best for these two names? I think this might influence our decision bc they are both such long names. Thanks!
p.s. middle name for Elizabeth might be Jean (family name) but not sure about mn for Caroline.

Re: NN for Elizabeth and Caroline
My favorite nn's for Elizabeth are: Libby, Betsy, and Beth
Caroline: Linny.
Elizabeth: Eliza, Liz, Lizzy/ie, Beth, Bess, Betty, Betsy, Liska/Lizka(Russian/Slavic nn, similar to the French "Lisette")...
Caroline: In addition to the obvious Carrie, I've heard Callie mentioned a few times, and Caro is another less-often-heard NN. I suspect Lina(LEE-na) could also be used, though the pronunciation is further off than some would like.
This is a list of everything I've ever heard of for either name....
Elizabeth:
Elle, Ellie, Ella, Eli, Eliza, Elsie, Elsa, Elise, Ellis, Lily, Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Izzie, Libby, Abby (yes, seriously), Ebby, Beth, Betty, Bette, Bessie, Betsy, Becky, Bitsy, Bitty, Billie, Buffy, Bee
My favorites are Elle, Ellie, Ella, Eliza, Elsie, Elsa, Elise, Liza, and Libby. I like Lily and Abby, but they seem like too far of a stretch to me.
We are seriously considering Elizabeth for a girl purely because it has so many really nice nns.
Caroline:
Cara, Carrie, Carlie, Carol, Lina (pronounced Line-uh or Lean-uh).
My favorites are Cara and Carlie. I like Lina (prounounced Lean-uh) and I've heard it IRL, but it also seems like a little bit of a stretch to me.
I hope that helps.
We are naming our daughter Elizabeth and calling her Eliza. I don't like Liz or Lizzie. Not a fan of Beth either. I'm ok with Betty and Betsy though.
I just realize that even though I don't like some of the nicknames, my daughter might prefer those names and want to be called Liz or Lizzie. Its not totally up to the parents to decide what people call their child.

Elizabeth would be Liz, Beth, Lizbeth, Lizzie, Bethie. But remember when they are babies you can control for the most part what people call them because when they try to use a nickname you don't like you can correct them.
Caroline the only one I can think of is Carol.
I really like the name Caroline Elizabeth if you don't want to use a family name. If you want to use a family name why not use Jean for either name.
Carter James
My favorite nn for Elizabeth is Libby. Not a huge fan of Beth or Liz.
One of my former co-workers goes by Caro for Caroline. I think its a nice alternative.
Absolutely hate when folks ruin a beautiful name like Elizabeth with something ugly like Liz or Lizzy. But agree that Beth, Betsy, Libby, Lisa are all nice nicknames.
Caroline is harder. Also a beautiful name, but I don't love Carry...maybe Cara? or Lina (pronounced Leena)? I think you can get away with calling a Caroline her full name...
I have a close friend named Elizabeth Ann, and she has had many nn's over the years.
Liz
LizAnn
BethAnn
Bethie
Ellie
Lizbeth
I prefer Ellie, Elle, or Liz.
For Caroline, there's
Cara
Cari (Car-ee)
Carrie

Very pretty! are you pronouncing it "e-LIE-za" or "e-LIZ-a"?
Betsy is my favorite nn for Elizabeth (obvs). We've gotten many, many compliments on calling our daughter Betsy because it's cute and it grows well, and you just don't hear it often. Libby is my second favorite, and I also like Betty and Bette.
I prefer Caroline as is.
