A fb friend named her new daughter Zoe-Kayte Elizabeth **. I keep picturing her as a doctor or a lawyer with the name Zoe-Kayte. I seriously wonder why people don't understand that their children won't always be a toddler with a "cutesy" hyphenated name. One day that child needs to have a professional career! I suppose she can just pretend the hyphen isn't there and go by Zoe.

Re: I just can't stop feeling bad for the kid.
we can only hope.... poor child.
By that crazy spelling, I thought she meant it to sound like "Katie" not "Kate." Regardless, it's bad.
I think it sounds fine. I'm not into alternative spellings but a lot of people like them.
Personally, I don't like traditional names -- they strike me as boring and overused, but I wouldn't grudge anyone choosing them for their own kids.
Plenty of people have given me crap over having a daughter named Scout...but I love her name and figure that's what matters.
This is exactly why we are giving our daughter a full name and hyphenated nn( if this LO is a girl)
FN Emaline Jo A---------
NN Emmy-Jo
I figure I can use Emmy- Jo as a nn when she is little if I want, but when she grows up Emaline is a lovely name for a Dr, Lawyer ect.
Like I said to DH picture the name on the birth certificate, on her college diploma, and on a wedding invitation. If it doesn't look good on all three start over with a new name.
Hopefully.
