Baby Names

ETA: Grey's reference/Joke/Vent

Anybody else feel entitled to a bigger say in baby naming? DH and the majority of the baby names board ladies prefer the Alistair spelling, but damn it, I still prefer Alasdair, and let's face it I'm putting more work into this baby than DH and the ladies of "the bump.com." I think my Va-jay-jay should get a vote. HmmWink

ETA; This has turned into a bloody mess. Sorry. I didn't mean to offend or twist knickers, but I don't believe in DD'ing, so I'll leave it here.

  • You can spell it however you want, but just be prepared for side-eyes for the rest of your life every time you tell someone how your son's name is spelled.  Not to mention the fact that your son will probably always hate his name.

  • I still love the traditional Alasdair but no, I don't think your vote should hold more weight just because you are carrying the baby. That's ridiculous.

I don't actually think it should either, and we don't work like that in our family, but today I am massively pregnant and kind of wish I could just have my way.

That's what this is in reference to. I want an extra vote! But I don't really think I should get one.

  • What kind of responses were you expecting, then? It's a baby name board. Not everyone watches Greys Anatomy and gets the reference.

  • OP, I actually like the Alister spelling. :) Spell it as you wish. A website shouldn't have such a big influence on your spelling choice... as long as it's a real spelling, of course. Alasdair is a great spelling, too. Best of luck!

Lol, I figured the ladies who watched the show would get it and would share a laugh. But I'm not upset by any who took it seriously. Plus I figured those who hadn't seen it would note the winky faces at the end of the post. But again, I'm not upset if anyone took it seriously and thought, that I actually think I should get an extra vote, because I don't/won't.

  • Me (and my vagina) vote Alastair

Love the name, love that spelling better. Not that we even get a vote, but just in case you were wondering....

  • I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, but this post still made me laugh.  I don't know why people took it so seriously, I could totally tell you were kidding.  Good luck getting your husband to agree to give your vagina a vote!  [; )]

  • Because you are very, very pregnant and deserve to get whatever you want right now, I say yes (even though I don't really mean it!).

  • My go-to phrase is "but the baby gets your last name." I really, really probably won't pull that one, but I think about it sometimes.

And as far as the ONE posters that got her knickers twisted, saying it is ridiculous ... is well, is kind of ridiculous. Seriously. You have the right to prefer a spelling and the right to fight for it.

I saw the post as a lighthearted vent about the spelling of your child's name.

Good luck with deciding on the right spelling ? either way, if it is a boy, his name will rock.

Seriously? A side eye for spelling it the traditional way? Oh-kay then.

I like Alasdair. Your son won't hate it. Some people on here need to lighten up!
