do you clean your washing machine?

I've noticed there's a smell coming from my washing machine (clothes, not dishes). I think it's from the times DH forgets to move the clothes into the dryer, though I ask him 50 times to do so.

anyway, how do I get the smell out? run an empty cycle with a buttload of vinegar? bleach? do they sell a product?

I get the same thing in my washing machine. I have been using this new(ish) Tide washing machine cleaner stuff as directed on the box, and it helps a ton.

Clorox makes a washing machine cleaner. It works pretty well. Or you can run a hot wash with bleach or white vinegar too and see if that works

this post reminds me of the time when my little brother decided that mom's washing machine needed to be clean so he dumped a whole bottle of Era detergent in the machine. Of course mom didnt know and started up a load of wash ....yep huge mess lol.

I use bleach & hot water and run it empty.

Also leave the door/lid open between washes.

I will add that I've tried vinegar and it never worked for me. We don't use bleach in our house.

I got a new front load washer a few months ago and it has a separate cycle specifically for cleaning the machine. I clean it every 2 months or so, but I leave it open after I'm done washing so it can air dry. My old top loader never had this problem.

white vinager works wonders for that!!

I put a 1/2 cup in every wash - it gets that moldy smell out if clothes have been sitting in the washer for too long. I actually add it to all loads now.

and while we're at it, run a 1/2 cup of Tang in your dishwasher (sans dishes) to make the inside sparkling clean

I am anal now about my front loader and clean it weekly. I either use 1/2 cup bleach or a great product by Lemi-Shine made for dishwashers/disposals/washing machines. It is called Lemi Shine MC and it is next to the dishwasher detergent at the store.
