Next step in sippies?

LO is still using the sippies she started with when she was about 8 months old -- Tommee Tipees. Should we be using anything different? I love that they almost never spill, but am thinking that we should help her learn the next step in drinking... So what is it? I know at some point, it's just regular cups. Anything between now and then? Pls recommend specific products if you have any faves!

BTW, she does know how to suck from a straw.

Re: Next step in sippies?

  • Well, straw to me would be the next step.  We have Tommee straw sippies but I do not like the valves.  It's a biitch to assemble.  I much prefer the Playtex straw sippy cups.

  • we went from soft top sippy, to hard top sippy, to straw. Now she drinks 50-50 hard top sippy & straw.

  • DD uses a mix of straw cups and hard spout sippies throughout the day and drinks from a regular cup seated at the table for meals.
  • I'm assuming next step, straw cups.

DS has been drinking from a straw for about 2 months now, and is 100% on sippies.

I haven't found any straw cups I feel comfortable giving him yet independently.  The cups at restaurants he sometimes will tip; box juice he will hold (amazing); at home I have these bite-down straw cups specifically for toddlers but they're even hard for me to sip on.

Any recommendations for straw cups for toddlers?

Munchkin has a good one.  They have a flip open top and the straw comes out at more of an angle, and I noticed that DD was less likely to try and tip it like a hard spout sippy when we first started.  I gave her those at 12 months and she did great, we still use them sometimes but she will drink out of whatever now.  They don't leak at all either!  I got mine at BRU but I have seen them at Target also.

I like this straw sippy, too!
