Who feeds their LO meat? We have only used the Gerber 2nd foods meat, but they smell disgusting and DS doesn't love them. He does eat them, but he doesn't seem as excited as he does with fruits and veggies. The pedi said that we can give ground up hamburger or chicken, but I'm not sure how ground up it needs to be or even how to begin giving him regular meat. I have him one of those baby crackers last week and he gagging and choking on that and they dissolve in his mouth---not sure if that was just cuz he wasn't used to it or what. So I'm a little worried what would happen if he ate meat. He has been on solids since 4 months old. Any advice??

Re: Feeding LO meat
We sauteed some ground turkey and then pureed it in the food processor. DS isn't quite sure he likes it, but he will eat it if mixed with a fruit or veggie he likes. It can take up to 20 times for a baby to accept a new taste so don't get discouraged.
www.wholesomebabyfood.com has good recipes for homemade baby food. The jarred meats skeeve me out so I am definitely making those myself.

i bake some organic chicken breast then run it through the food processer. i also add a bit of stock (which i always have in the freezer anyway) to moisten it. he gets 1oz of chicken and 1 oz of veg. i dont mix them together. i just hgive him a bit of each ar a time.
LO might not be ready for it if he is gagging. just wait a week and try again. in the mean time try to thicken his purees with oatmeal (or make them thicker if you do it yourself) to get him used to it
We either do the stage 2 meals where the meat is mixed with something (chicken and rice, macaroni beef, turkey and sweet potatoes, etc) or I put a jar of stage 1 meat (beechnut makes it) and a half jar of veggies together in a bowl. When I do it the second way I get a pib of each on the spoon and she loves it.
We have also given her bits of really finely ground beef and sausage. And she has had the inside of my ravioli from Olive Garden....which she thought was amazing and got mad when it was gone.
Megan LOVES the plain meats! We tried grinding up some chicken breast with some rice and she hated it so we opened a jar of the beef with gravy and she went crazy. She likes the veggie beef and the other mixed ones as well. So I guess its less work for us if she likes the ready made ones for now.
