Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how long between cruising and walking?

just curious. riley pulls to standing on everything now, even the back of the couch with nothing to hold on to. she will cruise along things, and when she gets to the end, she will lunge for something else to hold on to and cruise along. i'm just wondering if trying to take a step in between things will come next .... or if they cruise for a while before learning to walk. not rushing things, but just wondering what's next! :)

eta: she's been crawling and cruising since 7 months ... but she's actually "good" at it now and doesn't need to hold on to things as much.

  • DS has been cruising since 6 months and he isn't walking yet. He can take steps if you hold his hand, but if you stand him up and let him walk on his own, he takes 2 steps and then heads for the ground. I guess he still prefers to crawl and he is almost 11 months.

  • Liam started pulling up and cruising around 7 1/2 months but he still hasn't shown much interest in walking.  He is jsut now starting to use his Stride and Ride Dino we got him for Christmas.  He much prefers crawling right now.

  • Mason was standing at toys at 5.5 months, started cruising at 6.5 months and has been walking this week at a little shy of 9 months!  So about 2.5 months in between cruising and walking for us.  He is just starting to let go of his toy and take some steps to get to where he wants to be.  The other day he was playing in the living room and I went into the kitchen.  I turned around and he was behind me!! (the rooms are fairly close- he had probably taken about 10 steps)- no crawling here, though

  • DD has been pulling to standing and cruising since just before 8 months. She now pushes her toys back and forth across the living room, walks holding one or both of my hands, but refuses to let go and walk. She's not using them for balance, just security. I'm starting to think she'll be 5 before she walks!

If she's letting go of things, I'm sure she'll be walking soon!!!!

  • I would think standing unassisted would be more of an indication of walking since it's really the balance they need to do it.  Riley just started standing/cruising a week ago, but she's already letting go and standing a significant amount of time before falling!  I'm scared.

Well she's due to do something soon since she has apparently decided crawling isn't her thing :P  Lazy baby!

This is us too. He's been crawling since 6 months, pulling up before 7, and walking assisted before 8. I was worried he would walk really early but he doesn't seem to be interested. He will stand by himself but is happy crawling.
