when we put on videos, my kids love to stand right in front of the tv to watch, which in our playroom means their faces are about 1 ft away from the screen....they watch not even an hour of tv a day, usually a video in the AM when we're all getting ready so it is not like it is hours a day but I'm not sure how to get them to sit or stand back a little, I guess constantly pick them up & move them? I've tried pulling their PBK chairs up closer to the tv & sitting them in there but they really like to stand up to watch & of course stand close...and then there is the temptation of all the buttons so they turn on & off & change channels & volume & whatnot. they do walk away & will watch from other areas of the room too but they definitely prefer the right in front position. (and we can't move the tv, it is in a built shelving thing)
I feel like right now I'm not sure this is a battle I want to fight and I don't know how much truth there is to this damaging eyesight? I could see if it was a lot of time b/c it could affect near & far vision & strain eyes, but I am torn at this point...
Anyone else dealing with this?
Re: do you let your kids stand right in front of the tv if they watch tv?
Ok well most of the time, 90%, she never pays attn to the TV. If she stands in front of it, I let her and move her. I usually try to put toys in front of the tv to keep her from standing so close, plus DH doesn't want her touch the screen (eek)
However (devil's advocate) my nephew (12m) stands so close in front of it its BAD. All he does when we visit is watch the damn tv and it really bothers me. I try to put the car seat in fron tof it or move him but he goes right back. He will get upset if you pick him up to talk to him or stand in front of it.
I have a feeling its on all day when they are home there (5d a week).
