First name & Last name together - is this too weird?

My husband loves the name Miles.  I'm certainly not opposed to the name and felt good about adding it to our list however, our last name begins with "Es...."  Is that too weird, as in:

Miles Estrella (not our real last name)

Am I overthinking this or should I keep it on our list?

  • Hmmm....yeah, it DOES run together pretty evidently.

It's a pity, because Miles is such a great name.

  • It is a little snake-y, hissy sounding.  Something to consider anyway with a name ending in -s when you need to make it possessive. It just depends upon how much it bothers you compared to other names on your list.

  • I don't think the first and last names conflict. However, the similiar sounding end of the first / beginning of the last just slightly take away from the "strength" of the name. For instance, a first name ending in M or N would sound stronger. That being said, I don't think there is anything wrong with how it sounds, it think it is beautiful.

  • These are all really great thoughts...exactly the kind of feeback I was looking for.  Thanks!

The Z sound as opposed to the Es...does sound different.  Complicates things that DH wants to use his and his father's middle name that starts with a Z. (Zane - but I don't expect to use his middle name much.

I get the entire "taking away the strength of the name" issue and agree.

The snakey sound - er. Never thought of it but hate snakes.  And it's totally my last name.

Possession issues may bother me and I never thought of it.

  • Well, I obviously love Miles so I say go for it. But...my name is Pam and my maiden name starts with Ma... and it always sorta ran together and annoyed me sometimes. But it really wasn't that big of a deal.
