Ahhhh! I seriously cannot take it anymore... I am so sick of my roots, I NEED to dye my hair!! I just feel so icky and my natural color is SO dull and ashy (really dark dishwater mousy ash blond)....and contrasts so badly with the warm brownish red color I usually dye it
But I would feel so guilty because my doctor said (my usual Gyno that I've been seeing for these beginning weeks of my preganncy, not my OB... I have not met my actual OB yet, and wont until March 8th), she said that I should wait until at least 2nd Tri, and if I could maybe even hold out longer or use the semi-permanant after 2nd tri... But I haven't been able to find a semi permanant to match closely enough to my usual color and I'm afraid It'll turn out weird....
Last time I dyed my roots was about a week before Xmas and I usually have to do it every 4 weeks, as my hair grows fast... so it's REALLY difficult to think about holding out for another 3 weeks
I'm trying so hard to tough it out but all I'm seeing when I look in the mirror is ROOTS and that they almost look GRAY coming in because of the contrast... I need to be talked down off the ledge!
OK, vent over... there are more serious things in life...lol.
Re: I can't take it anymore!! Just a vent about hair dye..
What about highlights? My doc said they are fine because the color doesn't touch your scalp?
Also, if you are familiar with the line Lush (soap, haircare, beauty) they are all natural and they have a hemp/henna hair dye that comes in a bar farm that you boil and use to dye your hair. I am not sure if that is even a safe option but something to look into.
Yeah, I've heard highlights are a better option.. but I'm not sure if that would work for me, since the contrast between my dyed hair and roots is so prominant, I'm not sure highlights would cover it well? My dyed hair is a light amber/red brown and roots are extremely dark ash blond.
Not sure, I've never really tried highlights over this color... I guess I just figured that since my roots are so cool toned and the rest would be warm toned, the contrast would still be noticable?
Also, there's the matter of the extra expense of getting it professionally highlighted... I usually dye it myself at home
I'm blonde and would like to stay that way. My doc said it was fine.
Only tip might be to try a toner. My hair is a mousy light brown/dirty blonde like you described. When my roots get bad I use a toner that washes out with each shampoo on my visible roots (those around my part) and run it down through the ends. It helps blend the colors together.
Thanks for the input everyone!
I broke down and bought some semi-permanent color last night that develops in just 10 min...Plan on probably doing it tonight...the problem is it's a little different color than I usually do (I think it's more red, and possibly slightly darker....hard to tell, since color doesn't always turn out like the box says), so I'm really hoping it turns out OK..
Luckily if it turns out funny it's only semi perm so it'll wash out and fade eventually....
