I keep reading on 2nd tri and here about girls being pretty far along (20weeks) gaining like 3 lbs. I'm 16 weeks and have put on 5 total pounds. I thought this was decent and within range until I see girls gaining literally NOTHING and losing.
I have had a few unhealthy days but eating relatively well in general and even exercising 3x/week.
How do people NOT gain any weight
Re: ok lets talk weight gain
well not to scare anyone, but ive been hungrier than ever and all i want is carbs. I know i've gained a little more than I should... but i have been gaining a steady 4lbs a month. Dr isnt worried yet and im finally feeling better enough to start working out, so I now I can!
I think im on the opposite spectrum of all the girls who are losing a lot. I've been too hungry to really control it. plus add vacations and holidays and I am a chubby version of myself and im not ashamed!
The baby is healthy so im happy
Well, it's not a competition and our bodies all react to pregnancy differently.
Just like some of us get bloated and hungry with PMS and others of us are nauseated and can't eat right before our periods, you know?
As long as your in your Doctor's healthy range, try not to compare to others.
Well, I haven't gained weight. In fact, ive lost about 7-10 pounds. Now.. let me tell you why
I started at 5'6, 184 pounds, size 8-10. I am ashamed to admit I had hit the worse shape of my life. I had just officially left the "overweight" category.. and went to obese. Yikes, reality check.
Since ive found out I was pregnant, I cut out drinking obviously(I still went out kinda a lot and had too many yummy calorie filled fruity drinks) and also just haven't had the appetite I used to. Honestly, Im not eating awesome, my body is naturally craving lots of fruits but im also eating way too many carbs too. But still.. I think its less then I used to have because its what my body and my baby actually NEEDS.
So yes, I have dropped weight, but my doctor is fine with it, but it was cuz I started at a not healthy place. So don't be too jealous girl.. You sound like your doing awesome and by your picture you started out (and still are) very healthy and beautiful!
I have been wondering the same thing!
I have gained a total of 11lbs. Eight of which happened during the first 8 weeks due to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a cruise. I have only gained three pounds since my first OB appointment at 10 weeks (6 weeks ago).
I'm in the same boat as you. I've been craving carbs and I've been hungrier than usual. I still don't think I look pregnant yet, just chubby. I feel like when I'm hungry, I should eat. I was in the best shape of my life before I got pregnant (5'8", 135lbs), I've probably put on anywhere from 7-10lbs (depends when I weigh myself) which is a little more than what I should have gained in the first 14 weeks but my doctor is not concerned either. I just got married this past October (I got pregnant WAY faster than planned) so people who don't know that I'm pregnant probably just think I let myself go since I'm not married, lol.
They might be a little overweight to begin with. When you're pregnant your metabolism speeds up. But it also depends on the woman. I gained over 10 pounds of water weight before I even knew I was pregnant with my daughter. It was crazy. I was running miles a day and eating really healthy, but I still put on that much. Then with this pregnancy I have just started gaining weight. I don't feel near as bloated this time around. Don't worry - it will catch up on those women! My sister-in-law gained nothing her first trimester and ended up gaining close to 60 pounds in the second and third. Just depends on the person and even then, it differs with every pregnancy.
aw thank you! that was really sweet
I totally know its not a competition...but I was feeling kind of down this morning. Feeling like maybe I shouldn't have put on any weight really. I usually maintain a healthy diet & work out a lot just to maintain an average weight. I am also 5"10 and started out at 165 lbs...so its hard for me to see those high numbers on the scale.
oops, meant to say "got married" in my PP
I've gained 7 lbs so far. Ugh. It's hard, because I still get very nauseous when I get the slightest bit hungry and so I'm still eating constantly.
But, I'm also 6'0 tall so 7 lbs doesn't look like much on me, although I can certainly tell.
natural m/c and d&c at 10 weeks - 1/24/2014
DX w/ hetero C677t and A1298C MTHFR - 3/4/2014
ME too!!! Same exact boat...well,.I also got married in oct. early october so i've gained 4lbs every month since then!!! I was workingout and watching what i ate before the wedding, then i just wanted every carb i could find! i will contribue some of it to "post wedding weight gain"
or so I tell myself
yes and we got pregnant faster than we planned
I've lost 20+ pounds for two reasons: (1) I started out overweight and (2) I have no appetite most days and still have m/s, even though I'll be 16 weeks tomorrow. I do have days where I can eat normally, but those are few and far between. I usually have two really good food days for every five bad food days. It's just the way it rolls!
However, it's getting me ready for motherhood as I've gotten really used to eating my food cold. I often start to eat and then have to stop for a while and wait until my stomach can handle it, so I eat a lot of meals cold.
Good advice.
Well, I'm 5'9", and started at 268lbs when I found out I was pregnant. (Yes, that's right, ladies - that's not a typo...that's a 2 at the head of that 68). Between finding out and my 12 week appointment, I'd lost about 4 lbs...I've now gained back 1 1/2. the only thing that's different about my eating habits is...nothing. I dont eat any more or any less (ok maybe a little less cause my appetite is sh!te), though I have made a point to make healthier choices...but the baby is just taking more of it now, so it's causing me to lose or just maintain...I'm not allowed to gain anymore than 15 lbs by the time I deliver, so if you think about it, I'm technically supposed to lose 20 anyway... LOL
As long as the baby is healthy and growing steadily, I'm happy...
I didn't really gain anything in my first trimester, but have been gaining about a lb. a week on average from week 12 until now. I just weighed myself at work & I am almost up 5 lbs. total which would put me right where I want to be weight wise for this week. As long as I am gaining about a lb. a week average I feel like all is well.
I gained 11lbs by 15 weeks with my son.
This time? I'm only up 5lbs.
I think it has a lot to do with people's levels of morning sickness and nausea. I have been much more sick this pregnancy = eating less.
You really can't compare weight gain. Everyone starts out at a different weight, has a different body type, etc...so everyone is bound to gain differently.
I personally gain the majority of my weight in the 2nd tri. I hardly gained at all in the 3rd tri with DD, especially towards the end. I'm not worried about weight gain at all this time around considering I lost the 25-30lbs I gained PLUS some within weeks of delivery.

Here is a good site, you can enter your height and weight and it will show you the recommended min and max weight gain for each week. Even with that though, some people just gain more, some people gain less. I'm 5"3 and with my last pregnancy I gained 80 pounds... when I started out at 112! My Dr never said anything to me about it and I lost it all! Every pound came back off!
I was a little shocked at my 10 week appointment that I had only gained one pound and now at about 12 1/2 weeks I have added another 2. It seems like it could be from my expanding chest alone.
I do believe that focusing on eating healthy and grazing help keep the weight gain healthy and everyone gains differently and at different times throughout the pregnancy.
it has a lot to do w/ morning sickness--I was so sick for a few weeks, that as of my 12 wk appt on Tuesday, I've only gained 2 lbs--BUT, it looks like way more (IMO at least). My m/w said it's a little lower than what I should've gained, but she knows it was probably just due to me not feeling like eating too much.
As long as your dr. is fine with your weight gain, I really wouldn't worry. Once you hit 2nd tri, they expect you to put on 1 lb a week up until you get near the end, when your weight gain should slow down again. Keep in mind, you're adding on "a lot" of weight, b/c our babies are getting BIG!
I think that body structure has a lot lot lot to do with it too. So far I've only gained about 2.5 pounds. My doctor advised me to only gain 20-25 pounds. I'm skeptical of her weight suggestion - although only gaining 20 lbs would be awesome, and that's the goal I'm shooting for.
What she didn't take into account was my body shape - I have always weighed more than other people who are the exact same size as me, simply because I naturally have a lot of muscle. Even when I was super fit and ate super healthy a couple of years ago, I still wore a size 8 and weighed 145 and finding pants that go over my quads is a nightmare. I started my pregnancy only 5 pounds heavier than that, so I'm skeptical of only gained 20-25 lbs, but I'm going to try!
I just went for my checkup today & I was down to 125. Before my m/c I was 128, and after that, I was 133. I estimate I lost between 3-8lbs since getting pregnant since I'm unsure of the actual 'before' weight.
I do not weigh myself ever. My appetite has changed completely though (much to my dismay). I had a lot of nausea, but that's finally letting up. I eat significantly smaller portions than before (I get full or nauseous), but I eat more often. My plan is to continue eating when my body says it needs food and to eat as healthily as I can. Until the doctor tells me there is a problem, I'm not going to worry about it.
I had no clue what to expect with my weight, but I'm positive the loss of appetite/nausea had a lot to do with the weight loss.
