Trying to Get Pregnant

Clomid & no doc supervision??

I went to my regular gyne and she gave me 50mg of clomid to start next week and gave me 3 refills, all 50mg each.  She said if that didn't work then to try a RE-my question is, isn't it risky to be on clomid without being under a doctors supervision?  I can't believe she would give me 3 refills and just let me walk out.  Do I just call the RE and make an appointment before Clomid?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks ladies

Re: Clomid & no doc supervision??

  • Yes , call a RE so you can be monitored while on clomid! Even though 50mg isn't that high of a dose you still need to be closely monitored with blood work and ultra sounds.

  • Yikes, please do not take Clomid unsupervised! Who has the link to the post written by the girl that did that??

Please find a new doctor also!

  • Yes, that can be pretty dangerous. Good for you for questioning it. In general, fertility treatments are best left to an RE. Call your insurance company and ask if you need referrals for specialists. Then as the gyn for a referral if needed, or just decide which RE you want to see and make an appointment there. Good luck.
  • Wow, that is a scary story, thanks for sharing.  I've already left a message for a RE office in my area.  Thanks ladies~

  • Although I wasn't handed a prescription with refills right off the bat, my OB office just told me that the doctor will see me once a month while I'm on Clomid and to use OPKs to confirm ovulation. They also said that if I don't ovulate (you know, because OPKs confirm ovulation Confused), that she'll up my dose. No thanks. I just made an appointment with an RE as well.

  • Not to hijack your thread, but curious if all the people who are seeing RE's have anything covered by insurance?
  • I looked up my insurance and my RE is in network so I am calling today to see exactly what is covered.  If they're in network some things have to be covered I would assume.  GL

I know the battle your going through - where I am they don't monitor Clomid, and there's nothing I can do about it. This is my first cycle on it, and so far I've had no issues, but I'm very wary and nervous about the whole thing.

There are many women who take it without issue, and there are some bad things that have happened to some women. It's scary when it does.

    I wish you luck!

Thanks, good luck to you too!  I am nervous but waiting for the call back from my RE today.
