Uggg, back on the Migraine diet.

I was hospitalized for migrained this summer so I was put on this strict diet.  They got better and of course I stopped.  Anyway, they are back and now I have to go back on it.  This includes

no soda of any type

no chocolate

no yeast

no citrus

no potatos

no cheese

no ice cream

I HATE this diet but it works.  Anyone else struggling with migraines?

  • i used to get them all the time too but i never found any food triggers for me. and i've never heard of this diet but it makes sense since those of the most common food triggers. mine were almost always hormonal, woo pregnancy!, but i'm not taking anything on days when i get them - jsut rest, dark, plus two tyelnol & some caffiene for me.

good luck & i hope they get better soon!

  • I got migraines on the pill all the time... now, and before pregnancy off the pill, only once a month or so and not severe at all.

The only thing on that list I could give up without crying is the soda, I rarely drink soda.

Also, mine were often triggered by dehydration.

  • Yes, but I could never find a food link at all.  I used to always get them around ovulation, but then I'd also get them at random times.  I can tell when I'm going to get one because I crave chocolate and pee a lot.  Bizarre. So sorry you are suffering, but glad you know what you can avoid!
  • I've had migraines for years. They actually went away during my pregnancy with K, and didn't come back until after we were rear ended when K was 15 months old.

I've done the food journaling thing at least 3 times and never found a food trigger. I see a chiropractor and, when I'm not pg, I take relpax.

I'm hoping they go away and stay away during this pg too...and hopefully this time some ahole won't decide to hit me while I'm stopped in traffic and he's going 45!

  • I don't but DH does.  Once I put him on a migrane diet when we were dating, they dropped off dramaitcally.

He was getting between 3-4 per week and they were 7 or 8s on a scale of 1-10, with all the horrible symptoms!  He was literally bed ridden when he had them.

Now, he only gets them a couple of times a year when the baraometer is acting up.

He was thin when I met him but ate A LOT of food out of a box (read: tons of preservatives).  Now only eats fresh, real food.

I agree, the diet can suck but it works for him.

    Hang in there!

  • I get them really bad too, but food doesn't trigger them for me.  It's been HARD not being able to take any of my normal meds.  Last week was the first week I didn't have any and it was amazing, but they're back again.  I'm so sorry! I feel your pain!

  • I have them (and had them all through childhood). I think it is mainly hormone related for me. The 1st Tri they were the worst with DS and this pregnancy as well. My OB said to take 2 extra strength tylenol at the 1st sign of a headache and drink a coke (something caffinated). Feel better soon Smile
