? about prefold sizes

Here's my question - I bought a dozen small prefolds off of tinytush.com - it says they are 13.5x14.5 in size (I am almost positive this was BEFORE they are washed) - they seem small.  It says they fit 7-18 pounds.

GreenMountainDiapers has newborn prefolds that are  12.5x13.75 unwashed - and fit 5-10 pounds.  Their small prefolds are 14.25x16 when new, and fit 10-15 pounds.

It seems there are vast differences in sizes and how big a baby they should fit.  So - should I treat the tinytush as a newborn size when building my stash?  Has anyone used the tiny tush prefolds before?

I feel like they may fit a little longer than GMD newborn, but not as long as 18 pounds, they look so little now that I've washed them.

Re: ? about prefold sizes

  • You're totally overthinking this. If you've got what you need for the NB/small stage, then just chill out and you'll notice when it looks like they'll be outgrown soon. Then you buy some in the size up.

All I've got for prefolds is 24 rearz newborn size - it says they're 4-8 lb. After they're outgrown, I'll use them for doublers/burp cloths. Then I've got 26 GMD infant fitteds that are supposed to be 5-13 lb. Between these, hopefully I'm covered until one-size stuff can fit, or if I love prefolds I can buy some later in the bigger sizes.

  • Everything looks little before you have a baby to compare them to! lol. I have some GMDs and I think their sizing is pretty accurate. Their prefolds shrink up quite a bit though so keep that in mind. I think mine lost almost 2 inches after prepping. They might not fit all the way up to 18lbs but maybe they will. I wouldn't worry about it until you've actually tried them on baby. You'll definitely have plenty of time to order a larger size if you need to.
