Moving to southern Chester County-OB/GYN recs

Hi everyone...I live in Baltimore as of now, but we are anticipiating a move to Southern Chester Co (Avon Grove SD) within the next few months.  I am due on July 31, and would need to find a new OB/GYN.  Any recs?

I was also wondering at what hospital I would most likely deliver?

TIA!

Re: Moving to southern Chester County-OB/GYN recs

  • Hi!  We live in the Avon Grove SD.

I can't really recommend an OB/GYN as I use doctors in Delaware County, but a lot of moms I know have chosen between Christiana Hospital (DE) and Chester County Hospital in West Chester.  The closest hospital, though, would be Jennersville Regional but if you are used to larger hospitals then you may not like Jennersville.  We don't use that hospital for anything but we've had a few experiences there that influenced that decision.

I realize that really doesn't help at all but maybe it'll give you a starting point.  Anyway, welcome to the neighbourhood!

Thanks for the help!  I'm considering staying with my Ob and delivering in Balto since we will be moving pretty close to my due date, but I'm VERY nervous that my labor will progress quickly and we won't make the 1.5 hour drive to the hospital in time!  I'm also not looking forward to having to make that commute every week towards the end of the pregnancy for my weekly checkups.

We are very excited about the move!  Is there anything else you can fill me in on about the area?  I'll probably be looking for a preschool for my son within a few months after moving there.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again!

  • Not positive where Avon Grove is but we're in Parkesburg and I'll be delivering at CCH.  I go through CCOBGYN and they are a great group of Drs.  Everything I've seen so far about CCH is great.  They have a level 3 NICU and are affiliated with CHOP in Philly.

  • I think it's a pretty nice area, especially for raising kids.  There are a few local mom's groups (MOMS Club and MOPS) and there are quite a few parks, so no matter what area of Avon Grove you are in, there is a park nearby.  You also have your pick of pre-schools.  Some of them don't take kids under 3 but there are a couple that take 2y and I know of a Children's Morning Out Program that starts at 18 months.

  • Thank you both for your help!  foreverMorgan...I may be paging you when we actually move for more info about the MOMS Club and MOPS (not sure what the stands for?) if you don't mind!

My son will be 18 months old when the new baby arrives, and I was hoping to get him into a 2 day a week part time program for some socialization, and to give me some one on one time with the new baby.

  • MOPS is Moms of Preschoolers.  It's more about the Moms than the kids (the kids go off to a preschool setting during the meetings).  MOMs is more Mom AND kid.

Feel free to message me.  I'll offer whatever help I can.

  • I don't post over here often, as I'm usually on TK, but I live in the avon grove area. I would highly recommend Chester county hospital, and also Christiana. Not so much Jennersville. I've just heard too many not so great things about their GYN... I actually switched out of that office at 5 months and went to Lancaster General. Granted, yeah, it was an hour away, but they took the most amazing care of me and DD ever. They've got an entire hospital dedicated specifically to women- from TTC to menopause- they do any & everything for women. They were amazing.

When I switched, they were shocked at the tests that the Jennersville GYN hadn't done on me yet. Numerous friends have gone to Chester County hospital and have raved over it though- either one will be great. I do recommend taking a tour of any hospitals you're thinking of though- all three in this area have a completely different feel.

Oh- and as for daycares- I take DD to The Growing Place, which is right next to one of the subsidary dr's offices to CHOP in West Grove. They're phenomenal. And they take 6 months and up. :)

    Good luck!

  • I was in your situation but moved out of Chester County to the Baltimore area when I was pregnant with ds.  I was going to switch to a hospital in Baltimore but ended up staying with Chester County ObGyn since we moved so late in my pregnancy.  I would definitely recommend them to you if you're worried about trying to get to your current hospital in time.  I loved the doctors in the practice and the L&D nurses were absolutely wonderful..we had a really great experience there.  I would have went with them again this time if I didn't find a practice down here that I like!  Best of luck to you!
