When did your belly drop?

I still have 5 weeks to go with baby #2, but my belly dropped fairly dramatically yesterday and I'm wondering whether this little one may be planning to make an early appearance.  L was only a couple of days early, but my mother and sister each had their babies between 3 and 5 weeks early, so the possibility is definitely on my mind.

So how long before you had your baby did your belly drop?  I honestly can't remember from last time, but I think it was about a week.

    Baby #1 dropped about 2 weeks before, baby #2 never dropped. Dropping or "lightening" is a way for the body to prepare for labor but it is not a predictor on when someone will go into labor. All pregnancies are different so someone may "drop", and labor may subsequently follow but someone else may "drop" and not go into labor for weeks.

    Since you mentioned your mom...my Ob did tell me once that when you go into labor may follow genetics. This was true for baby #1 for me, but not for #2. Also of note, it has been shown that baby #2's tend to come sooner than #1's. This was true for me...I gave birth 2 days before my due date with #1, while I went into labor 10 days early with #2.

     But as you can see, despite all of the statistics, each pregnancy is different and there is no way to tell when the time will come. The last few weeks we do tend to get a bit ansy and we want to find any little thing that will give us a sign that labor is lurking near...I completely understand the sentiment....but the time will come when it's meant to happen.     with my older daughter it never dropped and I finally went into labor at 41 weeks 3 days.  with this one my belly dropped at 36 weeks and at 39 weeks 3 days I had my scheduled csection with no indication of having the baby anytime soon (no dilation, barely any contractions, etc.)
