Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Infant car seat/carrier

When did you move LO into a convertible car seat?  She is soooo heavy in her infant seat.  I can barely carry it.

But I like the cozy cover being over it for winter.

Re: Infant car seat/carrier

  • We moved him over at 6.5 months.  He was too heavy and HATED being in the carrier.  He loves the convertible seat and falls asleep in it for most rides.  It ended up not being so bad- I thought I'd miss the convenience of the carrier but it really has worked out better.

  • I think as soon as it warms up I'll move her.  I just can't carry her in it anymore.
  • We are in the same place, i love the bumdle me in the carrier but he is getting way too heavy to carry. We were going to Babies r us to get a convertible car seat but JJ is a sleep so i guess we wont make it.

  • We moved Alex over at 6.5 months, it was just getting too heavy to carry him in the infant carrier.

  • I start the car before putting LO in it, and wrap him in a blanket for the walk to the car.  He seems to be fine :)

We moved him over about a month ago... I am not a fan of change so it took me a little bit to get used to it, but I really love the convertible now, he's got more space and he is a LOT more comfortable.

  • We probably won't move DS to a convertible car seat until he hits the height or weight limit of the infant seat.  He weighs 21 lbs. and I still carry it all the time.  When it gets too heavy I'll just leave it in the car like a convertible.

  • Thanks ladies!!  I was feeling like I'm weak for not being able to carry it...  Plus I'm really short, so getting it in and our of our SUV is NOT easy.
  • Soon. She fights it when I try to put her in the infant seat. She's fine once she's in, but she's too heavy to carry too. I'd like to wait until the temps are consistently in the 40s so I don't have to worry about bundling her up to get to the car and unbundling her to put her in the carseat. (We have the cozy cover too.) I think she'll be too tall for the infant seat in another month at the most.

  • We are still using it, and we will for quite a while yet. DS is 27 inches and 18lbs. His seat goes to 30lbs and 32 inches.

Honestly, unless your child is squished in their infant seat, I don't understand why people don't leave the infant seat in the car. It is the same as the convertible then. Either way you will have to carry them.

We will switch DS closer to a year. I like having the infant seat still just in case I need to move him without waking him.

Having to just carry her is a lot easier then carrying her in that seat.  I carry her all day on my hip.

Also, DD goes to daycare and she will sometimes sleep in her seat.  She also sits in her seat when DCP is feeding the other infant there.  She likes to sit and watch her eat.  LOL...

DH takes her over in her seat (he walks because she is just down the street).  I pick her up on the way home so she's in her seat.  DH takes her out and puts her in on the weekends, so I don't have to.  But just carrying her from the sitter's house to the car and the car to our house is hard for me.  Especially getting the seat in and out of the car.

I don't see the big deal.  We already have the convertable seat.

It won't be warm here for at least another month.  Darn long winter!

I meant leaving the seat in the car as in taking her out of the infant seat and carrying her. Same thing as a convertible then, KWIM? But you still have the option of taking it out when you want.

  • THey'll have to pry those infant seats from my cold, dead hands before I give them up.  I still carry both and will until 30 inches.  The logistics of carrying two babies without a seat is just too complicated for me right now.

The infant seat reclines a lot more than the convertible. DD is always trying to sit up in her seat. She doesn't like laying back so far.

Our infant seat only goes to 22 lbs and 29". DD was 18 lbs and 27 3/4" at her 6 month appointment. She might have another month before she outgrows the seat.
