I'm switching doctors and hospitals

I called a Doula today and we talked about the hospital where I am giving birth and how I am not so comfortable with how my doctors rush me. She told me there is a much better hospital close by (the next state over so it never crossed my mind) that has a really low epi and c-section rate. She told me about a practice that delivers there that has midwives and are awesome.

I called and made an appointment with the midwives at the practice and am so excited. They also have doctors always on call should there be an emergency and since it is at a hospital if I want an epi I can get one. The hospital seems really cool but I want to go see it in person first.

I feel kind of bad but now that I am going to go to a midwife that will take the time to listen to my concerns and not push things on me I don't think I will spend the money on a doula. We just don't have the funds right now.

  • That's great! I'm sure you are so relieved...I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable with a practice that rushed me either. Sounds like you are getting two for the price of one! A great hospital with great midwives. Beats the cost of a crappy hospital and having to pay extra for a doula! Great to hear it all worked out!

  • Congrats on finding something better for you!  I'm sure your doula will understand.  Maybe you could hire her post partum for a few hours if you feel like you "owe" her (and assuming she is a post partum doula too), but really, I bet telling her that you're going to tell all your friends how much she helped you and recommend her to everyone will be enough.

Yes  Congrats too!  I personally like working with the midwives, they are so much gentler IMO.

  • That's great! I'm actually considering switching drs and hospitals myself. For me it's just about convenience but you may have inspired me!

Yay for helping! This would actually be less convenient for me since it is further but hopefully will be worth it. I can't wait to go see the hospital.

  • Sounds like some much needed good news for you. I hope other things are finding there way on working out. Good luck and keep us posted on how the new practice and hospital go.
