Purple4u mentioned an Indian wedding in a recent post and I thought it would be interesting to know what everyone's background is. I'm Hispanic - my parents are both from Paraguay and I'm the first child born in the states. No one ever can tell I'm Hispanic though and they always think my maiden name is my married name because it was so Latin and I look American

*sigh* WASPy mcWASP right here. My family heritage is almost entirely German, but I do have a very small amount of Native American blood. It's interesting because DH is adopted and only knows that his mother was Italian (she was actually born in Italy and moved here as a teenager). His father is a question mark. People have said that he looks partially black and others have said that he looks partially hispanic, so who knows. It's good to know that our children will be a little more diverse than me Big Smile

Mom = English, Dad = Italian. Both their families immigrated to Canada in the 50's/60's. I was born in Canada.

People usually guess that my background is Italian by my looks. Funny thing is though, that I look like my mom and she is the English one. *shrugs*

I'm Scottish (mom) and English (dad), but my family has been here for a long time. My great (x several) grandfather and my great (x several) uncle from my mom's side were Founding Fathers. I don't know as much about my dad's family.

I am also a bit of a Mutt. My Mom's side of the family is all Welsh and my dad's side is mostly German and I grew up being told there is a some Cherokee relations on my Dad's side. However, I always get that I look Irish. It must be the freckles and red hair.

Same, minus the american part. I look Italian or Greek. Too pale for people to assume I'm hispanic. My dad is Colombian/Brazilian and my mom is Peruvian. They moved to the states a few years before I was born and actually met here. Since they didn't have the greatest command of the language, I learned Spanish first and then learned English via Sesame Street and kindergarten.

I'm Scottish, Irish, and Indian on my mom's side. My 4x great grandmother was an indian princess who married a white man, so the "joke" is the women in our family are cursed with men. It has rang true for everyone but me

I am adopted. The only thing I know about my birth heritage is that it was at least 50% Irish (my mom was Irish). No one knows who my dad was. People tell me I look Russian a lot and I got told by many Russians that I couldn't really be American, that I looked too Russian, so who knows.

My adopted side (which is what I usually claim Smile ), I'm 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Czech.

My husband's family is Catalan (an autonomous region in Spain)

Uninvited anthropology info: "Caucasian" is actually a huge misnomer. It originally had nothing to do with complexion and everything to do with the head shape several groups of people living in and around the Caucasus Mountains. Somehow, over time, as we all lost our ethnic heritage in this great melting pot of ours, it became an oddly PC code word for "white."

I'm of mixed European descent. My mother's parents are from the Azores (possession of Portugal) so I'm half Portuguese, and my fathers parents were French and Italian-- I'm a quarter of each.

That is pretty cool to know how that came about and how people use it to describe being white.

I'm Caucasian, and my ancestry is mostly Irish, my mom is 100%, my dad is 75%, the other 25% is German.

Last year I actually did some research on Ancestry.com and found out much of my family came from Limerick and Cork Ireland, and the 1/4 on my dad's side came from Hamburg Germany.

DH and I are both Puerto Rican. I was born in PR and moved here when I was 8, DH was born and raised here. I'm dark-skinned and DH is very light, so I'm really excited to see what our kids will look like.

My mom's grandparents where scottish, english; and irish, english.

I've never met my dad but have heard whisperings he is part native. I've been asked if I'm native before, and when I was a kid I was always upset I couldn't go to first nations class with my friends. They got to do arts and crafts and make dreamcatchers while we learnt something dumb! Hehe

This GTKY is so interesting - it makes me want to know a lot more about my ancestry!

I have good bit of Native American heritage (Cherokee, we think) and a mix of Irish, English, and German.

When I was in high school, I searched a lot trying to find the roots of my maiden name - but I could never find it.

25% Spanish and 25% Hungarian the rest is a mix of everything and I am told a little dash of Native American. Most people think I am Asian though.
