Anyone know if they are bad? I heard about the foot massage causes contractions.. Actually last year I was getting one and the women across from me was KU and asked them not to massage her feet cause itd bring on labor.. just curious
I guess some certain spot can cause uterine contractions but that doesn't mean it'll send you into labor. I got a pedi last week and badger my H for foot rubs non stop.
lol im going today to get one.. sex can cause uterine contractions too not about to stop that. lol I just wanted to make sure it was something serious.. the girl looked a little weird and than her friend screamed at the lady doing her pedicure for not filing her nails right.. crazy bunch they were
To be honest- I would be shocked if your pedicurist (or anyone's for that matter) even knew which pressure points could trigger contractions. I doubt they go that deep into the tissue to massage lol. Pedicure away!
It's a very precise pressure point between the inner ankle and heel. My SIL is a massage therapist. A simple foot massage is really unlikely to do anything. I got them at least once a month through my entire pregnancy and it was fine.
I had one last week and I just had them skip the foot/ankle massage and just do the leg massage! It was heaven...I was about to fall asleep in the chair!
I did call my OB first to be sure that it was OK and the nurses assured me that it was but to not have them rub my ankles!
Enjoy it! I had one in January and it was great. I plan to have at least 2 more this PG. I usually try to get one right bf my due date bc there is no way I can see my toes at that point!
I got a manicure and a pedicure at 35 weeks, and I've never heard of this being an issue. Massaging legs - yes. That's a no-no unless you have a certified pre-natal massage therapist doing it.
Not that you asked, but I'm planning avoiding a pedicure this time around. Apparently my pregnancy body's immune system was so down that I picked up a nail funk afterwards, and it took forever to get rid of. It's not like the place wasn't reputable, but my toe nails were shot for a long time.
My OB told me once that it theoritically could happen but the risk is so remote that it's not even an IRL concern.
He said there's a pressure point on the ankle that could possibly cause labor but the pedicurie tech would have to hit the right spot at the right time for the certain amount of time.
My close friend from college who is a first year OB/GYN resident and expecting her first baby next month says it's perfectly fine to get pedis. She gets them all the time and ever since she told me it's ok, I get them too. Basically, she says that the person have to massage your feet super duper hard to be able bring on labor.
Re: Pedicures
I was just wondering this because I want one bad!!

I had them all.the.time during both of my previous PG's. They are 100% fine.
I have had a couple this PG too and am dying for one right now, but I'm on modified bedrest so none for me at this point
Enjoy!!!
I just got one last weekend, and I heard that so I told the guy I was 18 weeks and he said it's completely safe.
Happy Pedicure!!
