Hey ladies - with all the hype about the Medela Freestyle breast pump on clearance at Target, I decided to give it a try. I was able to buy one at regular price (well, sale for $341.99) in Lake Zurich (they had at least 1 left also), and return it to Arlington Heights and buy it back at $94.
For other ladies who are trying to score the same deal, call Target customer service 800-440-0680 and give them the DCPI# 030-05-2255. They will be able to tell you where the pump is in stock within your area and then also where the pumps are on clearance. The rep kept trying to tell me that at all locations where it was on clearance were out of stock, and I just kept reiterating that I understood that and I still wanted to know at what locations were on clearance. He gave me a list of 4-5. Note of advice: call ahead for a price check to see if it's truly clearanced or if it's salvaged; if salvaged, they will not allow you to rebuy at $94 since they would just send it back to the manufacturer.
We went into Arlington Height Target, returned it, told the customer service rep that we wanted to bring it back by the baby stuff to compare it to other pumps on the shelf. She allowed that. We went back, 'compared it', tried to price check using one of the self-scanners and the item came up as "not found." We went to electronics, asked if he could tell us how much it was, and he scanned with his gun (saying it's more reliable than self-checker) and said it was on clearance and rang us up. SCORE!
I wish you ladies luck. I have heard that there are several other locations that have it in stock and have it still at the clearance price. Get on it before all stores end up salvaging it!
Re: Suburb girls! $94 medela pump
I did this in the city -
I bought it at the Peterson store (near Peterson/Ridge), and returned it at the Target on Elston near Diversey. The return department wasn't very nice to me; they said the item had to be restocked, that I couldn't take it myself. So I waited about 20 minutes and got it off of the "restocking cart" which pretty much just sits by the dressing rooms for awhile.
They probably weren't nice to me because I was doing this with 2 pumps - one for me and one for a friend. I wasn't going to sell them on ebay or anything, but that was probably their thought!!
I'm confused on the breast pump deal at Target. Do you have to buy it at full price first and then return it to get the sale price? I don't understand why that would be the case? It's not just on the shelf on sale for $94? I really want to get this deal but am not sure exactly what to do. Can you explain a little more? thanks!!!
From my understanding, Target is individually operated. What is on clearance at one store may be full price at another store. The more I read others' posts, the more I think this deal is going away, but here is what happened in a nutshell:
Some Target stores started putting the Medela Freestyle pump (normally $379.99) on clearance for $94. Of course, these stores were bought out quickly because it was such an amazing deal. So some girls started buying the same pump at a different store for full price and then bringing the pump to one of the stores that had it listed on clearance, returning it and then rebuying it for the clearance price of $94. If you search the bump at the top of the screen for $94 medela you should find many results of people's experiences with this.
My post was solely to give the Chicago suburb area ladies a heads up where I found that pump in-store and where it was still coming up on clearance so they could try to take it back and re-buy it.
So I had no luck
I've been driving around the Northwest suburbs for the last 2 days & it seems like all the clearance pumps are sold out and are now "salvaged."
I called the Hoffman Estates store yesterday & they said they had it in stock & would hold it for me, so I ran over there & it was the wrong freaking one!!! (After I asked the guy like 5 times to make sure it was the one on clearance for $94.)
Today I went to the Wheeling store after calling to make sure that they had it on clearance & not salvage and they wouldn't re-sale it to me. I asked if I could take it back to "compare" and she said I could, but had to bring it back to the guest services after I was done.
I hope you other ladies had better luck!
Sometimes you actually have to wait for them to "restock" it, like I mentioned above. They won't just hand it back to you to rebuy.
It only takes 20 minutes or so for it to be restocked though, or at least on a cart sitting by the dressing rooms waiting to be put back on the shelf. 20 minutes was worth $300 to me!
