SHOULD i reverse bottle preference?

i've been having a really hard time accepting this bottle preference thing, but part of me wonders if it's not inherently a problem for the baby and i'm projecting my own emotional needs onto him. it seems to be ME that's grieving the loss of closeness, not him (since presumably he would take the breast if he missed the closeness!).

is there anything that is bad for the baby with EPing? or is a bottle preference situation totally fine for the baby?

  • I obviously know NOTHING about BFing, but if you did reverse it, would he start having problems eating at DC?

i don't think so--he has taken bottles from day 1 of his life--it's just a question of whether he's willing to take the breast as well.

  • i think its just a factor of will you be able to EP as long as you would ideally like to BF?

For me, that answer would be no...I HATE pumping.  If it came down to me EPing, i'd totally switch to FF.  But if you are ok with pumping and feel that the benefits of BM outweigh the inconvenience for you, then stay the course!  That being said, I think I would continue to offer the breast at every opportunity because it is just so much easier (in my opinion)

  • I posted below, but I think it would definitely be worth it to get him used to the breast again, and ideally, have him be fine taking both. The closeness that comes with BFing is unmatched, and that alone to me would be worth it to try to get him back to the breast. With EPing, he is still getting all the BM he needs, but EPing is stressful. I've been there. Life is so much easier having her take both breast and bottle. Don't give up on nursing. He will get it!
