TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

And it all starts with the money

So with our fertility clinic, we had to apply to get into the shared risk program.  I talked with the nurse yesterday about it and she said we would hear about it next week.  I got word today that we are in.  OMG.  Next, I have to sign the contract and fork over $20K.

I also talked with the nurse about PGD, b/c of DH's concern over downs.  She doesn't think we should do it b/c in her words 35 is still very, very young (insert my side-eyes here).  So now we meet with the Dr and talk with her about it.

I am just so scared by it all.   Oh, and now DH wants to start at the end of March... eeek. I don't want to and I might talk him out of it b/c that would be around the time that I went through hell last year with the blasted ectopic.  Not sure I really want another EDD around the same time.....

Re: And it all starts with the money

  • That'll be interesting to see what the doc has to say about PGD. Hope you guys can come to an agreement on when to start...I think the boys always want to start sooner. If it had been up to my DH, we'd have done IVF a year ago. When do you want to start?

  • That's interesting about the PGD, I'm curious to see what your dr will say.  I understand not wanting a similar due date, I hope you can reach a compromise.  It's the opposite at our house.  DH is asking for a break cycle next month, I'm wanting to just get it over with.

I would be fine with a start time in April or May.  March seems to quick for me.  It is all happening way.too.fast.  I can't believe it.

  • It will be interesting what your Dr says about the pgd. I hear you about not wanting to start in march. Ivf 2&3 gave me due dates within 2 weeks of each other and it makes the end of march/ beginning of April tough for me. Hope you and dh can come up with an agreement of when to start.

  • I hope you can find a solution that works for both of you. That is a LOT of money. Good luck!
  • Honestly, I know you are disappointed that you have gotten to this point but I am very excited that you are getting aggressive!  I really hope this works for you!!

As for PGD, I would wait and see what happens.  We had agonized over the decision and finally decided to do it and when the time came for both IVF's it never even came into play based on how many viable embryos I ended up with.  We lost $1,300 on the DNA testing we had to do but after all was said and done, we wasted a lot of time worrying about it for no reason.  We were out $26K on the entire cycle anyway so that $1,300 was a drop in the bucket.  But if I had enough good embies, I guarantee you I would have wanted to know which ones were the best ones to put back in there.  Food for thought.

Anyway, I am here if you have any questions.  Starting at the end of March seems like a bad idea but the whole process takes a lot longer than you think so keep that in mind.  Keep us posted and GL!!!

  • This step is huge and frigtening, however I am very hopeful for you. Luna is right, the process can take sometime. I hope that you both can come to an agreement as to what is best for you. As far as testing, I am all for it. It will be interesting to hear your RE'tagore on it. They all have different takes on testing. For us, we planned on it, however it was cancelled due to four embryos. The risk of damaging them outweighed the benefits. This was a last minute decision before transfer on day three. I am here for you. Good luck and big hugs.
  • Good Luck!!!  I hope that you can talk your husband into waiting.
