Car salesman used R-word during test drive no sale for him

DH and I went to look at new cars tonight. While the salesman was talking about cash for clunkers he says yeah that was really r-word to have that. I just looked at him like wtf and DH didn't hear it. First I hate that word and second how horribly inappropriate. Salesman gets out I just looked at DH told him I was glad wanted to sock the guy in the nose and told him what he said. DH was like you like the car but not going to buy it from him are you? He knows me so well. I wish I had told the guy what I thought and feel bad I didn't open my mouth. But the guy was definitely not getting a sale from us. Probably a little thing but I am weird about supporting people that I get irritated at he said other things too but that was my main irritant. All I kept thinking was are we still that ignorant what if DD had downs or autism or learning disability and faced that everyday. I would probably be on the defensive constantly

    ok it is either late or I am stupid but I have no clue what the r-word is.  BUT I like you would not buy form someone that didnt sit well with me.

     

    ETA: Figured it out.   I would have told him off.  That word is not cool.

    I have friends who have siblings with Down syndrome and I have volunteered at our local independent living group I rarely hear that word in my little community. I guess I am lucky that my community is so open and doesn't act like that. This was a dealer an hour away. It just hurt to hear it when I know how damaging that word is and could not imagine saying it and looking at a beautiful child who will be hurt when they hear it.

    My youngest has a genetic syndrome, is autistic, intellectually delayed, and has apraxia.  I tend to ream into people when they use that word.  My sister has learned to not say that in front of me.  Our oldest son has now started telling everyone how that word hurts.  He's 13.

    I know I'm chiming in late, but I would leave him a voicemail or something explaining that altough you really liked the car, he used a word that was offensive to you. As someone who worked in special ed for years and has family members with mental & physical disabilites, I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. That was totally uncalled for.
