6 month old & frustration?

Ben is getting more and more interested in the world around him - but as this is happening he seems to be having bouts of frustration - for example, that he can't reach a toy, that he can't sit up as long as he wants to, etc.  Did your baby experience this?  How do you walk the line between helping them move towards independence and yet still comforting them?

Re: 6 month old & frustration?

  • this is actually an impt milestone -being frustrated at not getting something his way. Maybe move the toy a little closer but not so close that he doesn't have to reach. Just encourage and make sure to give praise when he does it get done, this will motivate him to keep trying and do it again.

  • Frustration is actually very normal (and good).  I know it's difficult to watch (we often would just give in--and still do at times), but that's eventually what makes children crawl, walk, and talk.

  • YES. Sprout gets SO frustrated b/c he scoots backwards when he wants to go forward for a toy that is out of reach. It probably doesn't help that I think he got my level of patience (which is, um, very low!).

I agree with pp about helping him out but still encouraging him to develop the skills that are frustrating him (like moving the toy closer, but making him still reach for it).

  • Thanks for the input.  I know it is necessary - but sometimes frustrating for me to watch;0
