Hi Ladies
?
I am a working mom of a 10-month old DD and usually just lurk on this board but finally have a question I could not find the answer to. ?I have read that you should not introduce egg whites until after the age of 1 but was not sure if that also applied to egg yolks. ?When did you introduce egg whites and egg yolks to you DC? Thanks is advance.
Re: Egg Yolks - When did you introduce
We started egg yolks around 1. We haven't done egg yolks yet because I have food allergies so I have avoided giving DD anything considered highly allergenic. We are waiting till 2
I googled and found this:
Egg Yolks are typically fine for baby to eat around 8 months old. The egg whites should not be fed to baby before 1 year old.
Eggs are one of the top 8 of all allergens. Many studies that have been done on infants with egg allergies find that by the time the infant has reached age 5, the allergy has been outgrown.
.
I double checked Taylor's pedi's notes from our 6 month appt:
- wait until 9 months for cheese, yogurt, and egg yolks
- wait until 1 year old for egg whites, peanut butter, and whole milk
Sorry, I somehow switched those. I know DD had yolk earlier than 9 months b/c DH thought eggs would be a good breakfast and went ahead and gave her yolk as scrambled eggs. I think all of these things are fine as guidelines, just keep an eye out for any type of reaction.
We didn't introduce egg yolks, just started to give her entire scrambled eggs @ 12 months.
DS started egg yolks around 8 months. I haven't scrambled a whole egg for him, but he's been eating baked goods with whole eggs in them for a couple months now.
