Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 month old - not rolling over?

Hi Everyone -

My daughter will be 6 months next week.   She rolled from belly to back twice ( a few weeks ago, but never again) but hasn't rolled from back to belly (which I thought usually happened first)

She'll roll to her side, but that's it.  Anyone else have a late roller?   Anything that I can do to encourage it.

Thanks :)

Re: 6 month old - not rolling over?

  • My daughter started rolling from her belly to her back early but didn't roll from her back to her belly until 7.5 months (and now she's rolling all over the place.)

She would also roll to her side and around 7 months I kind of showed her how tocompletely roll by helping her leg all the way over her body (if that makes sense.)

    She'll get it soon enough!

  • Good to know.  I started getting a little worried, which I'm usually not like.

  • DS is 6 months and also doesn't roll from back to belly.  He used to roll from belly to back but now that he can sit up he wants nothing to do with it.

This is one of the questions I'm asking today at his 6 mo visit.

  • My big guy isnt rolling yet either. He weny belly to back once and thats it. He hates tummy time and really only wants to sit now.

DD was the same way so Im not worried. She rolled and crawled late but walked early

  • I had seen LO roll over a handful of times before 6 months and always like with a book in hand as if he had gotten taken over by momentum and I worried too.  Now that he is crawling though he rolls all the time.

  • My daughter is almost 6 months and still can't figure out how to roll over. Tummy time just means a lot of grunting and a bit of crying but no rolling. Oh well.
  • DS rolled from tummy to back at 3 months, but I have never seen him go back to tummy.  He hates being on his tummy, so that may have something to do with it, but I'm starting to think he's never going to do it.
