PSA: If your child has a lovey or blanket that they are attached to

HAVE MULTIPLES!!!!!

Everyone thought I was CRAZY for buying 3 of the same blanket and 5 of the same stuffed animal, but I have never been more convinced I was right (ok, 5 may be a little overkill, but 3 isn't).

Since Jake's been vomiting all the time lately, I've been constantly replacing blankets and lions with clean ones. Right now I have 1 set in the wash, 1 in the dryer and 1 in the crib with him.  He NEEDS his blanket to go to sleep and I literally don't know what we'd do if we only had one.

So, if your LO is attached or getting attached to something, make sure you get get more than one- in the event you lose one or one is dirty.

  • I couldn't agree with this more! DS attached to his "woof woof" that was given to us by a friend and we have spent 20 dollars and then 40 dollars replacing it/getting spares. The first one my mom ruined, but now we have 2. When he is sick I can replace and wash as often as I need to.

  • Funny story. My (single, yuppyish City-dwelling) brother bought Linc this cream colored lovey for Christmas from a boutique in Chicago when he was a month old. Over the summer we had to wash it a bunch because Linc wanted it to go with us everywhere. Eventually the arms started falling off, and could only be put back on so many times.

I asked brother where he got it, and he told me the store. Called the store, they only had pink ones in stock, but gave me the brand name. Lovey was 49.99!!!!!!

WHO spends FIFTY dollars on a lovey? So, I called Dear unknowing uncle and told him to find us another, and have it shipped asap! He actually sent two so we have a back up, and now I wash yuppie lovey in a garment bag on delicate cycle.

Uncle learned to spend less on nephews and niece, and I learned to have back-ups, and wash on gentle!

  • We have 3, I used to take one to work (took ds to work when I was a nanny) and have 2 at home. Now I rotate 3 all the time, they are all equally loved and washed. I would recommend doing this too so a new one won't get turned down if it looks too "new"!

Another funny....my old boss bought my ds a lovey from a boutique in Amsterdam! I was not going to let ds get attached to that one! haha

  • Nicole, I'm sorry Jake is so sick! I hope he feels better soon!

When LO was itty-bitty, we used cloth diapers as burp rags. When it came time to introduce a lovey, I used those (clean, of course). I had heard the advice to have multiples, so I wanted something easily replacable. It worked, he loves his burpies. We have over 25 of them, any burpie will do. Sure, they aren't as cute as other lovies, but I'll take convenience and comfort.

  • I am actually afraid to let the baby get attached to a lovey... of course, I just know the story my mom told me. I was super attached to a teddy bear. One day my mom got sick of it being so filthy and got it away from me and washed it.... and I refused to have anything to do with it anymore! Evidently I told her 'Not my baba!' and she felt super super guilty.

So now I'm afraid something like that will happen to me....

  • We have several of DD's loveys... and my brother bought her a stuffed animal that she is also attached to, so we went out and bought another. We have definitely had to use them when the stomach bugs have hit! Or afer she decided it would be a good idea to play in her diaper :)

We did lose one of her loveys on our trip to Florida over the summer, so I was super glad we had another with us!! That would have been a nightmare!!

  • Yup, we have three of Elizabeth's Angel Dear ducky blankets. One at daycare, one in the crib and an extra. I bring the daycare one home every couple weeks and wash it and send back the extra, just to keep them all equally used.

I've since seen that Angel Dear actually sells them in sets of three -- "A pair and a spare." Genius!

I hope Jake feels better soon!

  • Great PSA...how I wish Cal's attachment wasn't a hand-knit blanket that must be air-dried!  No replacement for that!

Vomiting all the time lately?  What's going on?

Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!

  • I did, yay for mommy. I keep giving her all these blankets I bought her, lovies, all different textures etc. Well, she ends up picking the one blanket someone made for her to be her favorite. It's a crocheted purple blanket and won't be durable enought to get her through toddlerhood. I'm going to go beg her to make more!

  • DH refers to it as "vice-puppy" as his role is to fulfill puppy's duties should he for any reason be unable to.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I have 2 taggies for him.  Did it LONG ago after he threw up on the only one. ;)

But now he actually likes to have both of them if he sees them. He's fine w/ one, but if he sees the other, he has to have it too.

  • I wish Jacob would take a lovey.  When I take away his paci in a month or so, its going to be ugly.

But my niece and nephew both have loveys.  The only catch is that they won't take another one - even if its identical.  We think its the smell and texture and that they've loved it just right.  So, my brother and SIL are screwed if they lose it!
