DD has been going to the same daycare since she was 3 months old. She loves our provider and my son does fine there too. Our provider is a really nice person but the setting isn't what we're looking for in a daycare. We are looking for something that provides more structured activities/curriculum, better meal choices and less TV. We want to stick with a home daycare setting and are finding ones that are out there that are curriculum base.
The big thing that is getting me is that the TV is on all the time and DD is now wanting to watch TV more when she gets home. Our provider also has her two boys that go there. I feel like she's always yelling at them because they're so rowdy. So we know we are going to make a switch but the question is when. I would like to do it sooner than later but I also want to only make one more move. My cousin highly recommends a provider but she may not have an opening until next spring. She does pre-school curriculum and is our school district. So would you wait a year for the opening or look to make a change sooner? I hate searching for new daycares and am just so confused.

Re: When to switch daycares?
I would look for a better program and switch as soon as possible. I am not ok with my child watching TV when I am paying someone to care for him. My son goes to a large center, which I know is not for everyone. But the advantage is that the teachers have degrees in early childhood education, there is a structured curriculum in each classroom, and there is no TV. I am not totally against TV--I just want to control what and how much my child watches.
i would not keep my children in a daycare that had a TV on all day and had someone yelling at children - period. I would look for a new daycare right away.
i'm a fan of centers - b/c they rarely ever use TVs at all, and have multiple adults to watch each other + the children.... I have never heard an adult yell in our daycare - in any of the rooms --- it would be unacceptable and they would be in huge trouble with the director- or fired. Our center has one TV the kids get to watch on occasion - it's maybe once/month.... I would not be OK with a TV being on every day at all.
