Thanks for thinking of us this week, girls! I'm a bit nervous (more for his safety with SOCOM than being alone) but it's a very short deployment. I feel ashamed complaining to anyone who has had to deal with a family member with an actual full-length deployment!
This weekend was amazing. He took me to our favorite restaurant (Coco's Bistro) Friday night. It was one of those meals that actually lasts for hours but went so quickly because we talked about so much.
Saturday was very lazy. That night I cooked him an awesome meal (if I do say so myself): chicken cordon bleu w/ cream sauce, rice, veggies, salad, homemade Reese's PB cups w/ vanilla ice cream for dessert.
He gave me the (outstanding) camera lens and I gave him the bpics. He loved them. I knew his reaction would be a little tempered by the leak 2 wks ago and the fact that he just doesn't react to most things. One of the things I want most in life is to get a reaction out of him ... I'm pulling for that when I find out I'm pg in the future, ha. As he looked at the pics more and more, he got more excited about them.
Sunday was another lazy day ... had a "business" meeting to get housekeeping in order while he's away.... it was the 6th of the month, when we always talk about our finances (specifically calc. net worth) but we also talked about house maintenance, planning for weddings, planning for us, etc. It was fun. We're nerds.
Then my brother & sister came over and we stuffed our faces with yummy food and watched the Packers win!
It was the *perfect* weekend.
Re: thanks!
We do this too. It's a good way to keep each other in the loop of what we're thinking about getting, what needs to be gotten, what we're doing with extra money, etc. We're doing a major remodel and sometimes things get out of hand if we don't pay attention, so sitting down to talk is a must for us.
And Ashley, what a great weekend!! I'm glad it was good!
Sounds like an awesome idea I guess we just dont set a day/time to do it. I mean we made a list of projects we want to get done this summer/spring but since I do all of the finances I guess I never thought about sitting down and sharing that info with DH.
We do. I don't know why we picked the 6th of the month, but that's the day (or around it). One of us updates a spreadsheet to calculate our net worth and project/chart our liquid assets + goals for the next 1-2 years. Then we both sit down to *briefly* review... i.e. was it a good/bad month, why ... what is coming up in the future, have we accounted for everything, etc. Keeps us motivated to save our pennies!
so true! I was thinking about that this morning, that when I think of him while he's gone, I'll think of this weekend.
So good to hear about your weekend. It does sound perfect!
We also do the monthly "meeting". My accountant husband calls it "month-end close" and we also do a "year-end close". I think it's crazy, but it's important to him so I play along. I like to hear the monthly net worth updates and see how we're doing on our long-term goals.
