Success after IF

Has anyone blogged about making baby food? (stage 1)

We won't be starting till 6 months but I want to gather as much info as I can. I know it's nothing complicated, I just like reading how others do it. We start rice cereal next month. I'm so excited!!!  I never dreamed I could love anyone as much as I love this baby. I guess I'm still in that "awe struck" period. I love, love this mommy thing. I can look at different infant spoons & bowls & random food storage stuff for so long...haha.  I'm trying to decide what veggie to start him out with.  ;)  I'm leaning towards either avocado or carrots first. What was your LOs first veggie?

  • After cereals, avacodo was G's first veggie/fruit.  He LOVED it and still does.  If you haven't already found it, check out wholesomebabyfood.com.  It's an amazing resource.

  • I wish I would have blogged. I am having so much fun with it!

Check out wholesomebabyfood.com if you havent already - I follow them step by step. We skipped the cereal and started with yams (on Thxgiving, lol). My girls love everything but squash.

And about making your own carrots - some info will tell you they have higher levels of nitrates in them (which can lead to nitrate poisoning). I went ahead and just bought 10 jars of organic carrot baby food just to avoid anything that might pop up. I did ask my pedi about the nitrates and he looked at me like I was crazy. hah.

    Have fun!

  • I've blogged about our experiences. It's fun! We did avocado for a first veggie. We skipped cereals though.

  • I blogged about it last year when we started with Cora.  I will be making Elsie's food as well

  • I never blogged and didn't start looking online for help for quite awhile. We used the William Sonoma baby food book at it was a huge help.

Also, we never bought anything "fancy" just for making babyfood. We used our food processor.

    Good luck!

    Thanks ladies!  It's so exciting!

I've read this about the carrots. I like your idea of sticking with the organic jarred carrots just so I dont have to worry about it. :)

  • I bought a magicbullet and it works pretty well plus I use it for other stuff too - we started with sweet potatoes - i have to say though DD didn't like the homemade food because it has a little more texture - so we went back to jarred stuff and I have to try the homemade stuff again this week - she also didn't like avocadoes - we skipped the cereal - I'm a little afraid it will cause constipation

  • It is so fun! And I have loved making her food. I am another wholesomebabyfood.com user. We did carrots first (homemade...everything I read said organic carrots are fine for babies, just don't use the cooking water to thin them out) then avocado, but she didn't like the texture on the avocado. But I should try again now that she is older. Also, i have used our blender to make just about everything she has tried thus far. Gets it nice and smooth!
